Blood results

I have received the following results:

T3 4.3pmol/L (2.6-5.7)

T4 16.4pmol/L (9.0-19.0)

TSH 0.10mu/L (0.35-4.94)

I have been receiving B12 injections and taking Vitamin D. I’m pleased with these results . I’d be grateful for any comments.

Thank you.

What thyroid hormones are you currently taking

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Are you currently taking T3

Was last 1/3 or 1/4 of daily dose T3 taken at roughly 8-12 hours before test

When were vitamin D, folate and ferritin last tested

If getting B12 injections are you also taking daily vitamin B complex?

Do you have Hashimoto’s?

Thank you for your reply.I am not taking T3. I am taking 100 levo thyroxine daily.

Test done early am, no food only water.

vitamin D, folate, ferritin not tested.

I take Vitamin D 2000 daily as was low.

I am not taking Vitamin B complex at moment, was taking Igennus B 12 but wasn’t sure if I should take along with Vitamin B injections.

vitamins will be tested when I see oncologist next.

I do not have Hashimotos.

Thyroid cancer/thyroidectomy 16 years ago.

My results 2 months ago whilst taking 100/75 alternate days were:

TSH 0.61mu/L

T3 3.3pmol/L. T4 20.65 pmol/L.

As a result of these results endocrinologist increased T4 to 100.

Last results>

TSH 0.10 mu/L (0.35-4.94)

T3 4.3 (2.6 - 5.7)

T4 16.4 pmol/L (9.0-19)

Thanks for looking.

Hello Tabitha

Just to add that the conversion ratio, when on T4 - Levothyroxine only is 1 / 3.50 - 4.50 T3 / T4 : with most people preferring to be at around 4 or under.

So if we divide your T3 of 4.3 into your T4 of 16 4 we get 3.81 so this shows good conversion : especially when your previous blood tests results gave you a conversion of 6.25 :

So, yes. I'm sure you feel better now you are on a higher dose of T4 every day :

The thyroid is a major gland sometimes referred to as the body's engine and responsible for full body synchronisation including your physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual well being, yor inner central heating system and your metabolism.

A fully function working thyroid would be supporting you on a daily basis with trace elements of T1. T2. and calcitonin plus a measure of T3 said to be at about 10 mcg and a measure of T4 said to be at about 100 mcg :

T4 is a storage hormone and needs to be converted by your body into T3, the active hormone that the body runs which is said to be about 4 times more powerful than T4 with the average person needing to utilise around 50mcg T3 daily.

Conversion can also be compromised by low ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D so it's also important to keep these monitored and your strength strong and solid.

some people can get by on T4 only, some people at some point in time seem stop conversion as well as they once did and some people simply need both these vital hormones dosed and monitored independently.

Personally I just think it makes sense to replace like with like and if the thyroid has been surgically removed or the patient has had RAI ablation that at least T3 and T4 should be on the patients prescription for if and when they may both need to be given to keep both T3 and T4 in balance and in the ranges and at a high enough level to restore the patient's health and well being.

P.S. I just looked back as you name rang a bell- we corresponded 2 years ago !!!

Thank you for your reply. Due to previous poor conversion to T3, I was hoping my endocrinologist would suggest adding a little T3 but I imagine with these last results he won’t be doing so - but I am feeling better so I won’t be able to argue my case for T3 at this appointment 😊

Yes, looking back at your journey you seem to end up hovering at around 100/125 buy your conversion doesn't necessarily increase but decrease with the extra T4:

If this increase works well a for you and there is room for another increase in the future you could consider going to the middle ground of 112.50 T4 by simply cutting a 25mcg in half and see that sits better for you within the conversion ratio.
