Vitamin D low and pregnant, can I supplement.

Hi,

Posted earlier and a kind respondent advised I repost under this title to see if anyone has any advice.

Had blood test results yesterday and the endocrinologist was not bothered by any of them, including low vitamin D.

Having read posts on here, if it were just me I'd up my supplement and see what happened. However as I'm pregnant I'm more cautious about doing anything experimental.

I've been taking a prenatal vitamin for the last 4 months. The vitamin D in that is 10ug, 'as recommended by the UK Dept of Health for pregnant women', says this is 200% NRV.

My results from yesterday are as follows:

Vit D - 74nmol (76-250)

Vit B12 - 549.6pg/ml (197-771)

Serum folate- 20.00ng/ml (3.89-26.80)

TSH - 0.242mIU/L (0.27 - 4.20)

Free T4 17.19pmol/L (12-22)

I'm currently on 75mcg of levothyroxine. Any advice?

Thanks

Optimal vitamin d with k2 and magnesium is needed even more important when pregnant and breastfeeding. Baby uses up your supply leaving you short. It's common to develop osteoporosis when pregnant

Thanks. I have a single vitamin D tablet I was using prior to going through IVF, when I changed to the prenatal vitamin. It's D3 1000 IU/UI. Would that be too much in combination with the prenatal vitamin?

Definitely not

I don't think it's a case of too much per day, but too much overall. So as long as you're testing frequently to ensure you don't go over the range.

I take 2000iu every day and I only have myself to support!

Your body will prioritise baby's health over yours so you do need to make sure you keep well during pregnancy. Pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are the most physically demanding events your body is likely to ever going to endure so be good to it!
