Hello everyone, Ive recently had to go gluten free. Nearly a month in I feel much better and symptoms are abating. Am now on the hunt for some good recipe books. Be grateful for any suggestions . Many thanks.

Deliciously Ella is great. About 80% of our regular meals are her recipes!
She's GF, dairy and meat free too but the recipes could easily be adapted to include meat of you're so inclined.
Thanks Onward. My son is veggie so that would work very well. I do eat dairy for my bones as am on a med that cause osteoporosis.....lol. Are there any good breadmakers for gluten free bread?
I discovered Warburtons tiger bread is great! Their GF crumpets are also fab.
Thanks 😀
Waitrose brown seeded is utterly delicious toasted (in separate GF toaster)
Don’t share butter, jam, mayonnaise etc either
Waitrose seeded Thins make good sandwiches or French toast
I tried the panasonic sd-2501 bread maker but couldn’t produce a decent GF loaf despite trying many recipes suggested - it was edible but not nice. Personally I think M&S brown seeded sliced loaf can’t be beaten (it’s the only GFbread my daughters who are not gF will willingly eat). Waitrose is good too, and at a push co-op does a reasonable one.Wrt GF cookbook, I have a couple but through experience I have found that a good number of ‘ordinary’ recipes work well, replacing flour with Doves Farm Rice or GF flour, or simple cornflour, and adding a pinch of Xantham if necessary. On the whole I find that GF baking needs to be wetter than normal so usually add a couple of tablespoons of additional liquid, It’s trial and error, but on the whole successful.
For home made bread I’ve switched to Soda bread, or fruit & nut soda bread, using GF flour.
Good luck!
Thanks Jacs for the great suggestions...... We have been switching to gluten free flour in the receipes we have but it doesnt always work. Had a disaster with samosas the mixture would not bind but didnt know about Xantham....maybe that would have helped? How does it work with pastry? Not tried making any yet.
Yes xantham helps to hold it together. not sure about Samosas but worth a go. I’ll send the recipe i use for shortcrust pastry later - it’s quite hard to handle and is crumbly but tastes delicious. I don’t bother making puff as the shop bought ones work so well.
Thanks Jacs. 😊 I didnt know you could buy ready made gluten free puff pastry . I will have a look. Weve discovered that the online supermarkets dont put all their gluten free products on which means I end up braving the supermarket.
Shortcrust pastry 225 GF plain flour
1tsp xantham gum
pinch salt
100g cubed cold butter
1 egg, beaten
Sift dry ingredients and mix, rub in butter until the mixture forms dry breadcrumbs
Add the egg & mix it in with palette knife. Gradually add 1-2 tablespoons cold water, a little at a time, mixing after each addition. keep adding water and mixing until it comes together to form a dough.
Briefly/lightly knead, wrap in cling film & chill for 10m
Roll out & use. I blind bake for 15m as i find it gives best results
For sweet shortcrust add 2tbsp icing sugar with the flour before blending into crumbs. after blind baking, brush the pastry case with egg wash from 1 beaten egg & bake for further 5m to crisp up
Works for me.
Not a recipe book, but a recipe. I recently came across this Nigella Lawson one for clementine cake. In general, I try to limit the amount of sugar I eat, which I do find helps, but this is a wonderful treat.
NOSH gluten free recipe books. Have a look on Amazon
Thanks will have a nosey.
I use BBc good food (online). I make all my food from scratch. I choose recipes I like and then make them with gluten free ingredients. Fantastic recipes online 😀
Glad you are feeling better for it. I really like “Coconut oil: recipes for real life” from Lucy Bee. She’s coeliac. I rarely use the coconut oil though. But other than that I just adapt recipes as others have said. Haven’t managed to make any good bread - always too sweet and dense! I don’t eat a lot of bread but when I do, Genius Fibre Fest or Protein Punch cobs are nice.
Thank you for all your great suggestions! Ive written them all down & shall enjoy trying them all out. Brill!!! 🤗🤗 Thank you!!
