Chicken liver pate recipe/overdose...

In an effort to get my ferritin and iron levels up, I started making chicken liver pate last week and have discovered that I am now absolutely addicted to it it's so delicious! 🤣😋

The recipe I used was Felicity Cloake's here: theguardian.com/lifeandstyl...

Just wondering:

1. Is there such a thing as too much chicken liver?!?

2. Anyone have any other good recipes they would like to share?

And please would someone remind me how fat is actually really good for us hypos... (got to be some good things about this condition).

I think you shouldn't exceed 200 grams of chicken liver a week due to the vitamin A content .

That is absolutely correct. Vitamin A toxicity is a real danger to be avoided.

Here are two results from a quick google search with good info. The second link is really visual and helpful in getting a grip on how much A foods have vs how much we need.

A is in many daily foods we eat. Therefore it’s a lot easier to get too much than you’d think. Plus Vit A is a fat soluble vitamin, and our bodies do not excrete excess. It is stored.

Thanks all - just realised I have a private blood test booked for first thing tomorrow. Do you think the vitamin A might be a problem for that?! 🫣

The only vitamin which is known to cause a testing problem is biotin. Others might, of course, affect the result - such as taking B12 would often see a raised B12 result - if they themselves are being tested.

Maybe don't spend the rest of the evening eating pate? And skip it for breakfast. :-)

🤣🫣 darn you rumbled my plans 🤣 Also thanks - I was getting retinol confused with biotin

Chicken liver can be a great source of many nutrients, the only thing I would note (apart from the vitamin A that has been mentioned) is that I would try to buy organic chicken liver (Waitrose stocks them) - less heavy metals (cadmium/arsenic) and antibiotics.
