Went into hyperthyroidism

Hi - I had a terrible incident 2 days ago where my heart started racing so badly for 4 hours and I constantly wanted to pass out. Landed in A&E and was admitted. Blood pressure 84/56.

Loads of heart tests and other bloods.

Turns out that they think I was over medicated as my TSH was 0.2 and T4 was 19.

I have also been on long term steroid use (Prednisolone) and currently on 5.5mg - so there is a possibility of adrenal insufficiency too.

I am also histamine intolerant and have multiple chemical sensitivities - do react to loads of meds and fillers.

Anyway the hospital lowered my dose from 100mcg to 75mcg.

New brand - Mercury-Pharma - although I think I have had it before - recognise the box.

I think I had an allergic type reaction to the actual tablets this morning.

The symptoms are the same as when so react to foods / chemicals.

Is there anyone who has experienced this and which brand has the least impact?

Thanks.

That sounds awful... I hope you are feeling better. It sounds like a reaction I had to Teva levothyroxine. Light headed, wanting to pass out, severe palpitations, headache, nausea. I have been fine on Mercury but have had repeated episodes on Teva.

Which brand were you taking?

I have also just started taking some folate and had a much minor version of the same.... light headed and faint. The brand I took, like Teva, has mannitol in it. Could it be one of the fillers rather than a sudden hyper reaction?

Hope you get it sorted.

I was on TEVA - but have been for about 2 months (100mcg) before my epuside on Monday.

Took last one in hospital.

Started new Mercury 75mcg today.

All so confusing!

Maybe try taking one anti-histamine tablet one hour before your dose and if you don't have a reaction, ask for a switch to another manufacturer. You might have a sensitivity in something within the tablet.

I had to call for an ambulance a number of times when quite newly diagnosed.

I cannot tolerate antihistamines either - have terrible reactions and have tried 5 now that my Functional doc has prescribed.

A year ago your FT3 was low in range. It is often mentioned here you are only over-medicated when the FT3 is over range. Click onto Slosh to find your earlier posts. 🌻

Edit: Apologies for underlining ! Have no idea how that happened !

I have had the same reaction on Mercury now I always stick to to actavis which now seems to go under the name Accord. I was also overmedicated and have been on 75 micrograms a day for many years now. If I try to raise it the tiniest bit my heart starts to race.
