Hyperthyroidism, fibroids/prostap3

Hello All!

I'm a newbie and I just want to have a conversation on the above. I have recently been diagnosed with overactive thyroid with my TSH level at <0.01 mu/L and Free T4 at >100 pmol/L. I've had aneamia before mainly due to my multiple fibroids causing really heavy periods. In fact, I'm due for a procedure to take out the ones in the cavity of the uterus (not all fibroids will be taken out as apprently the ones causing the sympotms is the one ones in the cavity). With one of them quite large, I had Prostap 3 injected in June which lasts 3 months and puts me in a an induced menopause to shrink the fibroids. They need this so I wont bleed so much during the procedure. I have been having symptoms like sweating/hot flushes which I just thought was due to this. But I've also noticed weight loss, increased bowel movement, hand tremorand more recently the palpitations/hear pounding with my heart rate racing to around 100. Hence the GP visit and she suspected thryroids so was orderd bloodtest and was confirmed hyperthyroidism. I asked if the injection has anything to do with it as it is a hormonal injection and my fibroids apparently is also caused by increase hormone estrogen. I'm thinking they are all related whichever one came first, fibroids or thryroid problem. I just want to check if anyone else have the same experience. I'm waiting for referral at the moment to Endo but quite apprenehsive as my procedure is in 2 weeks. Thanks for your comments x

Welcome to our forum and any member whose had a similar experience as yourself will respond when they read your post.

I have hypothyroidism which was undiagnosed despite many visits here, there, and everywhere. I am well now thanks to TUK.

Heavy periods are usually associated with hypothyroidism rather than hyperthyroid

What's GP prescribed for your Anaemia

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies for Hashimoto's (hypothyroid ) and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Plus for Graves' disease (hyperthyroid) endo should test for TSI or TRab antibodies

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

Thanks SlowDragon. I just took iron tables for my anaemia. I'm not bleeding at the moment due to the induced menopause with Prostap 3 injections. It seems I only have FT4 and TSH and not the others from my GP but also tested B12, folate and ferrtin which were normal. My full blood count is on satisfactory level though as my MCV, MCH and MCHC are low. Not sure if they have to do with the thyroid. I will check out the other links for private test. Managed to get endo appointment next month. Do you suggest I do the private tests or will the specialist order another blood test with the others (endo also NHS)? Thanks for your help

What’s the actual “normal “ results and ranges on B12, ferritin and folate

Being within range isn’t necessarily good enough

As it’s not long to wait, guess see what endo tests

If they don’t do all tests you need you can test privately after

You could just test vitamin D now or ask that it’s done by endo

£29 via nhs postal service

Ferratin - 124 ug/L (normal 30-400),

B12 377 ng/L (191-663),

Folate 5.7 ug/L (3.9 26.8)

Thanks again for the link. will check it out.

HiSamy3. Thanks for the comment. Same with me it seems the Fibroids first befor thyroid. I was just checking if they are all related as all hormonal related. Did you do anything with fibroid? I'm yet to see endo to find out cause of my Hyper.
