It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, but I am suffering from anxiety and stress and have been off sick 3 months now. The thing worry’s me the most is the sensation I’m getting in the top of my chest and sometimes feels painful when I’m at my worst. I have been diagnosed with an under active Thyroid for about 3.5 years now and I’m taking 75mg of Levothyroxine . I am wondering if this sensation is linked to my meds or is it that I need to up them. I’m also taking Azathioprine 150mg and an injection for Crohn’s every 2 weeks I have been put on Cilalopram for my anxiety.
My boss at work is very controlling and a bit of a bully, but this seems an extreme reaction. I am at the end of my tether and can’t seem to see a light at the end of th tunnel .
If anyone can help that would be great.

Hi Kathy , I looked at your previous posts and it seems you have had one autoimmune disorder after the other starting with eczema ? I wondered if you are aware of how much of a role estrogen dominance plays in autoimmune disorders ? have you been diagnosed with hashimotos or just hypothyroidism ?
No I haven't been diagnosed with hashimotos, not sure what that is? What difference does it make, to just having hypothyroidism and what else should I be taking?. I have started with another skin complaint which is perioral dermatitis, this is around my mouth and now spreading to my eyes. I have been on treatment for this for just over a week, it is not helping with my anxiety,
I am speaking to HR on this, did have meeting on teams with him and HR Lady, about returning to work, but it caused an extreme response and now I feel like it has set me back. Normally I am a very strong person, but this man, screws with my head. He's a Jeckle and Hyde type and he is manipulating the HR lady, that he really does care.I am getting counselling, but I'm concerned that I may not be able to get past this.
So sorry to read about your struggles. Now you are here I am sure you will soon make some progress as so many members here will have great suggestions for you.
I too was diagnosed with Crohns after Gut TB when I was 27. ( more info on my Profile - click my username) I was diagnosed with Hashimotos when I was 59 ' now 74 ! Both Crohns and Hashimotos are auto-immune. I have not taken any meds for Crohns for 30 years.
As you have Crohns the uptake of vital nutrients will be impaired. Important to be tested for B12 - Folate - Ferritin and VitD. All need to be OPTIMAL and not just in range. I could write pages but will leave it here for the minute.
You are legally entitled to have copies of all your results with ranges. Maybe phone your surgery and make a request. Also surgeries increasingly have on-line patient access - so worth asking.
If you are in a position to have Private Testing at home - then currently there are Special Offers. It is the only way to have the correct testing. TSH - FT4 - FT3 - Anti- bodies TPO & Tg - also B12 - Folate -Ferritin - VitD. Used by 100's on this Forum. Come back with results in a new post and people will help and support you.
I have been ready other responses on here regarding different makes of Levo and have noticed that I have 2 different makes for my 50mg which is Mercury Pharma and Teva for my 25mg could this be coursing me the problems also. I am having my blood tests today at 3:1O forgot and took my Levo will this make a difference?
I have read here on the Forum that it can make a difference ! Your FT4 may be higher. Do you know which tests you are having ? Yes some Levo can cause problems.
I looked at the first two posts of yours from four years ago. The first one mentioned recurrent mouth ulcers, and the second mentioned eczema.
I had both of these problems, and still do, but they are now extremely minor compared to what they used to be like.
In my case optimising my iron and ferritin reduced the number of mouth ulcers I get. I also ditched any toothpaste which contains sodium laurel sulfate and fluoride. I am currently using this one - the purple one on the front page :
I have always struggled with mouthwashes. So many of them seem to burn my mouth. After much trial and error I have finally found one that I find helpful and I can tolerate :
As for eczema, I found that keeping my vitamin B12 levels high is essential for me. The best form of B12 for me is methylcobalamin.
Note : While raising my B12 my mouth ulcers and eczema can temporarily get worse, but after a while that problem goes away. I've also discovered that my problems can increase when if my B12 levels start to drop.
I also need to maintain my folate levels in the upper half of the reference range, and for that I supplement methylfolate, not folic acid.
Having low levels of nutrients is absolutely typical of people with thyroid disease and quality of life can be improved immensely by optimising as many of them as you can. The basic ones are vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D, ferritin and iron.
Thank you for your message. I have been using an aloe toothpaste which is natural from a health shop for over 3 years now. My ulcers are a lot better now I have my Crohn's under control. I don't use mouth wash, because I find it too harsh. My eczema is a lot better, but now dermatitis around my mouth. Which could be coursed by stress and anxiety. Just can't cope with feeling in my chest. I am taking Vit D and B12, but will try the others you suggest.
I am in a better place than I was 5 years ago, I now only take levothyroxine....a lot of problems have been alleviated by myself, basically I found out my vit B12 was low...I have been supplementing and overall feel much better, I think I was suffering from all manner of things five years ago, started going through the menopause, adrenal problems due to doing night shifts, which I gave up. So I don’t think it was one thing, the strange feeling has gone.
The endocrinologist was a little dismissive when I told him I felt better since the vit b12. However, I do.
Obviously I cannot advise what you should do apart from check you vit levels.
I now am taking vit d.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis a few years ago.
It’s taken me decades to feel this way, it’s been a real struggle since my thyroid was removed but am able to enjoy my life more now...apart from the pandemic!!
I hope you find answers to your prob, I would certainly check your vit b12.
Thank you so glad your feeling better. I started the menopause 4 years ago and it’s been one thing after another. I’ve been taking Vit B12 for couple of weeks and Vit D for quite some time. I am feeling a bit better, hope it carries on improving.
Thank you for your message, people on here are so nice.
Hi Kathy what type of sensation do you have in your upper chest , I have a very painful collar bone area ? I’m due an MRI tomorrow because if 10 months of arm /shoulder pain and burning 🤷🏼♀️ Hope it’s connected to that and the scan shows something.
It’s my upper chest. It’s like a throbbing in my gullet. I have shoulder pain arm pain and most of my joints. Had full body scan for joints shown nothing.
