I have almost finished my supply of Thiroyd NDT and I'm having to start using Tru-thyroid shortly. I currently take 3 pills of Thiroyd daily - how many Thu-Thyroid pills would you recommend taking to get the same benefit?
Thank you.

n1mble2, Have you asked the supplier, or manufacturer this question? They surely are the best people to advise on this, as they supposedly will understand how the two medications compare.
I've heard that this new one only comes in half grain pills, so you would, on that basis alone, need twice the number of pills (Thiroyd being 1 grain pills).
I have been taking Tru Thyroid for about 3 months now. I was taking 3 grains of Thyroid S before so I started on 6 Tru Thyroid which I was told was the same dose. I quickly noticed symptoms creeping back and just didn't feel so good so I increased to 7, then 8, then 9 Tru Thyroid. I now feel as well as I did on 3 grains of Thyroid S. I'm going for tests in January.
Hi vouguets - I'm interested in hearing what your bloods were. i have been experimenting with Tru thryroid ater having to switch from Thiroyd( no longer made) . I have come to the conclusion that Tru are not as strong.
I currently take 7 Tru throid (3.5 grains in theory) 3 days a week and 150 Levo 4 days a week but have not had my bloods done again so no idea what they are. I feel OK though. The general consensus seems to be that Tru is not as potent but I'm not yet sure how not as potent they are! I used to take just 3 grains (3 pills) of 'Thiroyd' a day and it was perfect... until they stopped making it
Does anyone have more up to date info on Tru? Its been abotu a year now since they first appeared...
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello. This is interesting reading. Today is my first day needing to take Tru Thyroid as my Thiroyd ran out yesterday. I too took 3 grains of Thiroyd and I’m going to take 6 Tru thyroid grains today but it sounds like I may need to take more!
Can I ask what made you take a combination of Levo and NDT? And am I right in thinking prescriptions are free if you’re on Levo..??
Best wishes
Hi there, I started off with my experimenting with taking 3 grains (6 pills) of Tru Thyroid - I definitely became undermedicated as my skin started to feel dry. In a tiz, and as I'd spent about £50 on Tru Thyroid i switched to using both levo and Tru thyroid.
My reasoning for this is that I found on the old NDT 'Thiroyd' I had noticeable improvements on just using that (3 grains / 3 pills a day) - these included some noticeable weight loss and changes in my menstrual cycle. - I therefore decided that NDT had something in them that was worth kicking the levo for so didn't want to go back on only Levo. I have been on the regimen I mentioned above, for a few months but due to Covid , I haven't had a blood test recently - but I feel good now.
I really should get my ass into gear and ask for a blood test
Yes, i think you are correct that levo is one of the drugs that is always free on prescription - Someone once told me that it costs the NHS about 30p a month to prescribe Levo. As I said though, I think the 'extra' stuff in NDT, does do *something*.
All the best,
Melissa
Hi wysewoman,Sorry for my late reply..
I still haven't had a blood test! But things have changed since I wrote that I was doing well on 9 Tru Thyroid. I had a few Thyroid S left in a small bottle and as I was going away for a few days I took them with me. Well the first morning I took 3 grains and noticed quite quickly that I felt warmer and my heart beat was faster, I have been taking them for a week now and definitely feel better than I did on Tru. I am almost at the end of my stash of Thyroid S and not looking forward to going back on to Tru I saw on another forum that people were saying that Thyroid S is back in production but I haven't managed to find any.
Hi VouguetsI've just had to swap over from 'Thiroyd' NDT to Tru Thyroid and i'm starting on 6 pills which I believe it 3 grains which is what I was on previously. It's worrying to hear you say that 'Tru' just doesn't seem to do a good enough job!! Let's hope it's true that Thyroid S is back in production - I did see it was going to be available from April but was very expensive. Perhaps going part NDT/part Levo is the way forward. Please let me know if you read any more about availability of Thyroid S.
