Hi, I hope you are all safe., I have Hypo for nine years now. I am taking Levothyroxine 100mg daily and Liothyronine 20mg both once a day.
I have no appetite, and still cant loose weight. Last week I was rushed into hospital, and diagnosed with a Deep Vein Thrombosis, my leg is so swollen, very red, with excruciating pain. They have started me on Blood thinning medication and need to have a full body scan.
Any advice greatly appreciated
Thank you and take care

Hi! Yes, naturally very scary when this happens!!!
Ok ... my knowledge is a bit limited drawing on memory from ooohh ... almost 40 years ago when following a broken ankle op I was struck by dvt, in the form of a pulmonary embolism. Long period on warfarin following a few days in hospital hooked up to a giant clockwork syringe continuously injecting heparin intravenously.
Yup ... take this seriously, be very careful to adhere to your anticoagulatipn meds regime. No alcohol & read up on types of food to avoid. If you’re on warfarin you’ll need to have regular finger prick blood tests to make sure you keep in range. What anticoagulant meds are you on?
As for general health, how is your BP? ... and resting pulse rate? Are you a smoker or ex smoker & if ex how long ago did you give up? Need to be aware that smoking constricts the blood vessels and can make one at greater risk of dvt & other circulatory issues. How old are you? Do you get much at least gentle exercise? Are your legs & feet often cold in bed?”
How are you regarding your poo? If constipated, spending long periods on the loo can restrict blood circulation which in turn can lead to blood clots due to blood pooling and failing to circulate. Have you got any varicose veins?... another potential slowing down blood circulation factor that causes clotting risks. What about daily life? Are you retired or still working? Standing up relatively still for hours or indeed sitting at a desk hardly moving your body are both occupational risk factors as is sitting at home still for hours on end watching telly or reading a book ... especially if you don’t keep your legs & feet elevated.
There is also a link between hypothyroidism, low metabolism, poor blood circulation and cardiovascular
Incidents. Lol ... am reasonably convinced that my heart issues that finally turned on me in 2014 with dilated cardiomyopathy and a blooming great thrombus nestling in my left ventricle arose from low FT3 levels following over 30 years of T4 treatment and back then not having a clue about the importance of Liothyronine ... am now permanently on Dabigatran Exilate anticoagulant, having switched from Warfarin about a year ago when for some reason my bloods became unstable on that.
Obviously one can’t advise you on what to do, but generally, gentle regular exercise to
keep blood circulating and sticking to your anticoagulant meds are good advice. At present given your legs condition I wouldn’t venture any suggestions regarding exercise not being medically qualified and unaware of your particular circumstances! Have you been given any advice yourself?
Hi Mike, thankyou so much for reply. So, I am taking Rivaroxaban 15mg twice daily for 3 weeks, after that I start the same meds once a day 20mg.I have got to have a scan in the next 2 weeks and to see clot specialist.
Been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 9 years ago, which has caused many symptoms. Endocrinologist could never get my ranges stable for years, hence my thyroid meds always being altered.
A year ago I started combination therapy of Levothyroxine 100mg, 1 daily and Liothyronine 10mcg 1 daily.
I can honestly say, that for a year I felt somewhat better on this combination, so I am now still taking the same meds.
February of this year I lost my sight for a few minutes, and yet again rushed in hospital with a suspected stroke. I was diagnosed with a Retinal Detachment and had emergency laser surgery, i have been left partially sighted.
I am 62 years old. I exercise too much. I go to the gym everyday for 4 hours a day, as I'm obsessed with it , but still struggling with weight.
I do cardio and light weight training, plus I really enjoy it.
My Appetite is practically non existent, I have an eating problem and find food very difficult to take, so I drink protein drinks and fruit.
No, I do not smoke or drink alcohol .
My feet and hands are always cold, ive been told its part of the Thyroid disease.
My blood pressure is good and so is my pulse rate. I have varicose veins and have had them operated on 3 years ago. I am now retired and live an active life. I also have diverticular bowel inflammatory disease.
