For those of you that have had a voice change that's deepened, could you scream if needed???

lol Oh, I think so! Although I've always found it difficult to scream to order. But, there have been certain things that have extracted a scream from me - like getting home from lunch and finding the plumber had fallen through the ceiling and there was a pile of rubble in the hall; or meeting my son in a restaurant and finding he'd shaved his head. Also various cuts and falls, but not so much.

Me too, so there no hope of it coming back?

I don't know. Perhaps it depends how long you've been hypo before getting treatment.

Maybe it would be better to ask if one can get one's singing voice back, rather than if one can scream. :)

That's what I meant hope to get my voice back🤣wish I knew how long I was hypo for before treatment...

You can never know exactly, because it creeps up slowly. But surely you can pin-point when things started to go wrong, no? With me, I was about 8 years old.

When I look back I think it could have been 22 years ago after a car accident. Voice changes about 10years ago..I dont suppose I will ever know for sure..

No, I don't suppose you will. :) But, car accidents often are the beginning of thyroid problems because the thyroid gets damaged. It's a surprisingly delicate little organ, considering how important it is. Do you know that dogs can develop thyroid problems if they strain on the lead? A harness is much better than a collar for walkies. :)

No I didn't know that..how would I know if a seatbelt damaged my thyroid, it was a bad accident my daughter got paralysed..

greygoose in reply toraine-wager

I'm very sorry to hear that.

But, the damage wouldn't necessarily be done by a seatbelt. It would be more likely to be a whiplash injury.

I did have whiplash but also the bet somehow finds it's way across my neck cause I'm short and my boobs get in the way🤣

Oh, I know the problem! I hate seatbelts.

Well, it sounds very much like your hypo was caused by the accident. Unless you already had it beforehand. Have you had your antibodies tested?

Depends on the doctor. Some do, some don't want the expense. Ask for one, and see what happens. :)

I miss singing because I used to be very musical and I was a member of a choir. If I try to sing now all that comes out is a bit of a croak.

I usually hum along to my favourite songs and even that sounds strange.

I've got a really deep voice for my size. I always get comments like wow I didnt think you would sound like that. It's been like that since around puberty so I always just thought it was that. I think now the thyroid could have some part in it.

My voice has definitely deepened and worsened over the years. I can't sing at all now though can shout when necessary. If I have too many conversations I can hardly talk and my throat hurts. In fact, I hate the way I sound.

I once saw a speech therapist but as I've never been diagnosed with hypothyroidism by NHS medics, the link between vocal problems and hypothyroidism was never been made so the speech therapy didn't do much.

However, Dr Myhill has recently diagnosed me based on latest TFTs, so I'll be starting on Metavive within the next two weeks. I'm hoping that this will improve my voice, but I'm not holding out much hope.
