Grateful for someone who understands...

Been on T3 only most of year as nothing else seemed to work...

But Can barely tolerate small amounts...extremely sensitive to everything plus adrenal reactions...low cortisol etc. So latterly had been on 10 mcg t3 in divided doses...eventually reducing more and more to nothing during a UTI in October snd disastrous antibiotics.

Seen my doc who’s lovely...explained situation and said I feel I should try the t4/t3 combination...he agreed...but first...having stopped all medication and all supps for about three weeks..had bloods done.

As yet no free t3 result...maybe to come ?

Free t4/is 5.7

Serum TSH is 55.86

No TGO antibodies done..!

TPO Antibodies.....194. Was 46 last September.

Any comments from knowledgable people extremely gratefully received...as I find the science bit very hard to understand.

Also...

I asked Doctor for prednisolone as Dr P recommends sometimes..but then I read adverse thoughts on this and couldn’t bring myself to take it...Any thoughts on Prednisolone 2.5 for short course...good or bad ?

And ADRENAL CORTEX....

I TAKE TWO Klaire cortex daily....not sure if good or bad for more..but adrenals aren’t right...

Thoughts on this also...please,.many thanks ..🌝

When it comes, I suspect your FT3 level will be through the floor. Assuming usual-ish sorts of U.K. lab red ranges, anyway (do you have the ranges? It would help us to know for sure).

Poor you. You must feel terrible. Did you voluntarily go off all meds or was it the doctor’s idea? Either way, proven beyond any doubt at all that you are very hypothyroid. I’m not surprised things aren’t working because your overall health will have taken one hell of a battering having been starved of sufficient thyroid hormones over the last couple of years. Every cell in your body needs it.

What are your ferritin, folate, B12 and Vit D levels like? You’re going to need all of them to be optimal for thyroid meds to work as they should (because all of those nutrients (plus selenium and other B vits) are involved in getting T4 to convert to T3.

And how long before you see the doctor again? You need to be restarted on thyroid hormone replacement ASAP. You’re currently running on fumes...

THANKYOU very much for sympathetic reply ! Appreciate...Put myself on t3 only in April...snd increasingly lower doses, as just as when using NDT I couldn’t seem to tolerate...eventually ended up on nothing..but having said that my adrenals are still playing up...

Been through all the different approaches...snd have ended up full circle to try again with t4 and t3... it with more understanding this time...

Last time a private endo ..in 2014..put me on 75 t4 and 10 t3.. it I didn’t k ow then how super sensitive I am...took the whole 10 mcg t3 at once in am

And made me feel terrible....

In my naivety I then concluded this approach didn’t suit me...

NOW though, I’d know that I must approach this really carefully and start really low...less t4 and certainly less t3...to see how I tolerate it...I’m 71 this week and it doesn’t get easier does it ! I try to take all the right things...but still low in iron and folate etc despite this....

Thanks so much for replying....I shall keep in keeping on🌝

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease

Strictly gluten free diet often helps or is essential

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Essential to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 .....likely to be EXTREMELY Low with such high TSH

What vitamin supplements do you typically take?

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten. Dairy is second most common.

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first

healthcheckshop.co.uk/store...?

Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet

(If test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, maximum 6 weeks wait officially)

Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

Non Coeliac Gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and autoimmune disease

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/296...

The predominance of Hashimoto thyroiditis represents an interesting finding, since it has been indirectly confirmed by an Italian study, showing that autoimmune thyroid disease is a risk factor for the evolution towards NCGS in a group of patients with minimal duodenal inflammation. On these bases, an autoimmune stigma in NCGS is strongly supported

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/300...

The obtained results suggest that the gluten-free diet may bring clinical benefits to women with autoimmune thyroid disease

nuclmed.gr/wp/wp-content/up...

In summary, whereas it is not yet clear whether a gluten free diet can prevent autoimmune diseases, it is worth mentioning that HT patients with or without CD benefit from a diet low in gluten as far as the progression and the potential disease complications are concerned

restartmed.com/hashimotos-g...

Despite the fact that 5-10% of patients have Celiac disease, in my experience and in the experience of many other physicians, at least 80% + of patients with Hashimoto's who go gluten-free notice a reduction in their symptoms almost immediately.

Were you already strictly gluten free?

You don’t need any obvious gut issues to still be severely gluten intolerant

No not tried gluten free yet still ! Resisting it for several reasons....A hashi friend is strictly gluten free and she’s no better at all

I believe everything is out there in nature for our well being..food wise I mean ...and I can’t see any really natural alternatives to bread made with some kind of normal flour,,.I eat organic as much as is possible..am very food savvy ..eat masses of vegetables and fruit....meat regular but tiny amounts and food quality...

I find gluten free products turn me right off...snd don’t want soya in any shape or form neither really do I want rice flour...rice is steeped in arsenic...! I don’t trust any of it ! You’ll probably be able to countenance this with stuff you know snd I respect that..I’m open but cautious z!

All I know, is I was astounded that I was severely gluten intolerant.....zero gut issues

And many, many Hashimoto’s people find the same

It’s always worth trying.

I avoid GF products and grains generally and never ever eat soya in anything
