Muscle aches

Hello lovely people! I hope you are all managing to stay well under these circumstances. Can anyone recommend an efficient cream or gel to get rid of muscle aches? (Why do we even get them when we are optimally dosed up?!) I’ve used voltarol but that wears off quickly and I refuse to take pain killers. Anyone have any suggestions please? 🙏🏾💜

Hi sorry you have these pains - I suffer with muscle issues too - try Magnesium oil by Better you - works for me. Be careful as it is salt - not to get into your eyes and a bit messy for your clothes too.

You might need an increase in your dose, so I would make an appointment (if at all possible) to have a blood test.

Even though you state "Why do we even get them when we are optimally dosed up?! our FT4 and FT3 could be on the low side, particularly FT3.

In the past when given NDT, there were no blood tests at all and we got small increases in dose until we were symptom-free. NDT contained T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin.

Thank you Coe your advice. I’ve recently had blood tests and tweaked my meds ( the results were not too bad) I feel better but the aches are just annoying! X

Theoretically, when we're on an optimum dose for us we should feel much better. If you're still having pain you should check your Free T4 and Free T3 as the 'frees' are more informative than T4 and T3 only. Rarely are these tested by the GP.

There’s nothing on your profile....quick look through previous posts ....couldn’t see any mention of gluten

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

It is good if members put their thyroid history into their Profiles as it means we can read it without asking repeat questions before answering.

Thank you! I didn’t think of that so apologies and thanks for taking the time to read through! 🙏🏾💜

I can see from your last post 2m ago that you’re right about thyroid results looking optimal.

Bit of a bugger then that you’re still in pain. Magnesium is a good shout, especially if you’re taking Vit D.

Have you been working on getting your B12 a bit higher? I see it was 400 and something, usually better for it to be over 500. And folate levels need to be good to make best use of B12 so that might be something to consider?

Of course the other thing—though I hesitate to mention this—is that you just don’t need the levothyroxine you’re taking. I see you have the gene that means you don’t convert well. It could be that the Levo isn’t really doing a lot in your system (other than causing side effects like muscle ache).

I’m not suggesting you drop the Levo right now, only that it might be something to consider once you’ve ruled out all the other possibilities?

Of course, for some, aches and pains are something completely different, like undiagnosed Ehlers-Danlos, or varicose veins etc.

Thank you so much for tour time too 💜 I’m currently working on my b12 and folate and feel good... just silly aches specially when I wake up. I’ll try magnesium and see how that goes 🤗

Hi , same with the ache and pains . I use deep heat rub cream that works for a while . Deep heat patches. Even tried deep freeze , that more instant relief but wears off quicker than the heat spray . I'm same with pain killers but sometimes just need a break from the aches and pains. Take strong solpadol. Works if waking in night with pains . Hope you find something to relieve the achys.

When you say having all of her Mercury fillings ‘safely’ removed, how do they do it safely? I asked my dentist a few years ago if I could have mine removed and he told me that it was more dangerous to take them out than leave them in but I have always felt uncomfortable having them.

Lots of advice being offered about causes and other help, it is always difficult to assess someone else's pain. Voltarol has an active ingredient 1.16% Diclofenac anti-inflammatory drug to be applied 3/4 times a day for osteoarthritis pain or injury. There is also a 2.32% gel twice a day. I find an Ibuprofen gel is just as good and cheaper, also anti-inflammatory, you can get 10% with a prescription. Perhaps have a chat with a pharmacist about what is available. All that said both have side effects and are not really the answer for everyday use only for injury. Have you tried just massaging in cold cream, the massage is the bit that helps or hot water which I find best.

Thank you for that info, I’m 66 and I have at least four at the back of my mouth that have been there for a long time so I will be mentioning it again to my dentist, once regular appointments resume.

I fully agree with you about NOT taking pain meds; however, have you tried taking turmeric/curcumin supplements? 1000mg @ 2x/day is a pretty typical dose---just find one without all the "fillers".

Yes I already take optimal curcumin and have done for a couple of years. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply 🙏🏾

This is great advice so thank you so much. I have a pulse oximeter, fitness tracker abs take my temperature every day and my pulse is definitely always low even though I’ve started running again. Will look at your recommendations also. Thank you and for being so supportive of your wife! 💜

I had my mercury amalgam removed. Here is info from my dentists website about the why's & hows of mercury amalgam removal. Very important to go to a dentist properly trained & with the proper safety protocols.

For muscle aches I have found the following helpful: topical magnesium; epsom salt baths; alternating hot and cold in the shower; Salon Pas Pain Patches; a good stretching and conditioning regime.
