Full Blood Count Borderline?

Helenback profile image
8 Replies

GP asked me to have a ton of blood tests, now wants FBC repeated in three months as borderline, I asked what was borderline and was told the FBC was so I am none the wiser what does this usually mean? I already knew the thyroid levels were ok as had a private test done.

Thank you for reading :)

There are many tests included in a full blood count:

Haemoglobin

White Blood Count which includes:

* Neutrophils

* Lymphocytes

* Monocytes

* Eosinophils

* Basophils

Platelet Count

Red Cell Count

Haematocrit

Mean Cell Volume - Red cell

Mean Cell Haemoglobin

So your GP isn't being particularly helpful when he just says it's "borderline", it could be any of them or all of them.

Why not ask the receptionist for a print out of your test results and post them on the forum, remember to include the reference ranges as this will show which are well within range and which are borderline or out of range.

You have a legal right to a print out, I always get them.

Well, they are just slightly over range, and you are certainly not anaemic.

Good idea for your GP to check them in 3 months.

This is what the NHS website has to say about the Red Blood Cell Count:
