My Free T4 and FreeT3 were low in range when my bloods were last taken in Nov. 2019 ( TSH 0.5; FT4 13.4 (12 – 22); FT3 3.6 (3-7) ). I take 75mcg levo and 12.5mcg T3, so I decided to try to raise the levels by adding 25mcg Levo and testing after 8 weeks. Just before I was due to get tested privately, I started to experience a faster heartbeat during the night and at least one episode of alarmingly faster palpitations almost daily, usually soon after I get up. I immediately lowered the Levo dose to what I’d been on before, but now, a week later, I’m still experiencing the palpitations. This morning it happened at 7pm …. before I took my thyroid meds. It doesn’t last long …. 5 to 15 minutes . Throughout the rest of the day my heartbeat appears to return to normal and can even be as low as 60 bpm when resting.
I had some bloods taken yesterday, including diabetes and celiac disease.
Vitamin B12, VitD, and folate have all been good over recent years.
Last iron results were:
Serum ferritin 56 ug/L (13 – 300)
Serum iron level 19.3 umol/L (10 – 30)
Serum transferrin 2.6 g/L (2 – 3.6)
Percentage iron saturation 29.4% (30 – 40) Low
(I’ve been trying to improve my iron levels for the past two months by eating liver once a week.)
As recent tests revealed higher than normal morning cortisol, I’m wondering if my adrenal glands just can’t cope with the rise in thyroxine dosage, even though it’s not much and isn’t likely to push my levels over the edge – or am I wrong?
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Apologies for the long ramble.
