I had my short synacthen test this morning, I was googling about it just now because I am still extremely hot, rashy and feeling extremely sick but I read that you are supposed to stop taking any birth control or hormone replacement meds 6 weeks before the test. I was never told this on my email I was sent and I take norethisterone 3x daily. Will this effect my test results?

Short synacthen test
It can give an elevated result if it contains oestrogen, it looks as though it is just progesterone so it should be okay, but mention it when you get the results. did they do an ACTH blood test at the same time? It needs to go on ice straight away? Sometimes you can respond well to the ACTH injection & pass the SST but the issues may be with the pituitary gland rather than adrenal glands, hence why they should do a base line ACTH blood test.
I don’t think so. They put in a cannular, took two tubes of blood, put in the synacthen then came back an hour later and took two more tubes of blood, took out the cannular and I left.
So they might have done it with the two lots of blood a the beginning. They should contact you today if the results were under 100nmol/Ls to start on steroids as that's an automatic diagnosis, hopefully you won't have to wait too long. Ideally cortisol should reach 450nmol/Ls to pass the SST.
