Amazon smile

Hello all!

I know opinion can be divided on Amazon but if you do use it, have you considered using Amazon smile instead?

Once it's set up on your browser/phone/tablet you use it as usual and 0.5% of your purchase price goes to your chosen charity. Which sounds pitiful but it all adds up.

Thyroid UK have received an additional £728 in donations via amazon.

It's an easy way to lend support to your chosen charity! 🙂

Apologies if you all already knew this! 😁

Thyroid UK have received an additional £728 in donations from Amazon in 12 weeks.

I'm not sure they have received that much in 12 weeks, although possibly Louise or Lyn could confirm. I think what that shows, from the wording used, is the cumulative total up to May 2020.

Easyfundraising is another way to raise funds for ThyroidUK as well, I use that for my Ebay purchases, I also check to see if any other online shops I use are on their list.

Ah, sneaky wording by Amazon. What a surprise! 😉 I'll edit the post now.

Well, the general gist still stands. If we all did it it could add up to a tidy sum!🙂

I'll use that website. Thank you!

Yes, I've used Amazon Smile for some time.

To quote another retailer, "Every penny counts"!

Good to see this raised, hopefully it will encourage members to join

My Amazon Smile is set for Thyroid UK - has been for a long time. I’m not sure Amazon as as generous as they could be all things considered but you’re right DD - every penny counts.

Yes I am a member, so regularly make donations.

Yes, I do use Amazon Smile, although my donations go to the Bradley Lowery Foundation... Another good way of donating to charity is the Give As You Live scheme which, in some cases donates a lot more than 0.5% up to as much as 2.5%! You join GAYL and see whether the trader you want to shop with is part of the scheme. Sadly, Amazon pulled out of this one (presumably to set up its own Smile) but eBay and most large retailers are part of this one AND you can use it on the High Street too! So far, I have supported Born Free, the Humanimal Trust and currently Solving Kid’s Cancer...

I have used it for years donating to rescued animals that I support in other ways too. Animals get the roughest deal in this world.

I agree! (which is why my amazon smile donations go to a wildlife rehabilitator in my area). She does amazing, selfless work and needs all the help she can get.

Trouble with most/lot's of this/these Charity giving/app's is they cream off the Funds!

Example Amazon is have Smile they give to a sort of charity collector something often set up by them in a shell company etc they then collect the cash then hand over it to likes of thyroid UK And this is where the crunch part starts it's what's left after there running costs!

Often 0.5% of that so always be mindful all that Glisten isn't always Gold!

I didnt know this. I’ve just added Thyroid UK. You have to go in through Smile Amazon every time which is no problem once you know x

Used to do quite a lot of charity fundraisers so got to learn a lot into how they run in the background! "Eye Opening"

One was when you used to get those Rose around clubs etc they'd have a collection box also they'd "Rattle" then when back at base those boxes was opened!

Cash was counted up then money for Roses Collectors and drivers money plus costs taken out of pot then what was left think was 10% went to the charity!

Those Bike rides etc you see "Come and ride to save the Pickled Green Fart" there run by companies that use Save/Fund the? Banners so just a business.
