Just a quickie!! Blood test results

Hi - I recently had a blood test (usual annual check) and results were as follows:

T4 12.8 (6.3 - 14)

TSH 0.48 (0.3 - 5.6)

Ferritin 47 (11 - 307)

Cholesterol 6.74 - LDL 4.3

FBC normal HPAIC low

I did stop taking my levo for 48 hours prior to the test as I had such a fight last year to stop them lowering my levo from 75 to 50 based on stopping for 24 hours. I am aware that 75 is virtually a 'starting' dose but I guess based on these results I am fine?? I have had the more extensive tests in the past and was told that I was converting fine so I guess that I only need 75??? I will start taking ferritin supplements I think?

TSH 0.48 (0.3 - 5.6)

T4 12.8 (6.3 - 14)

To have left off Levo for 48 hours you have a rather high FT4, that could indicate that your normal amount of circulating hormone is over range (which would be measured if you left the advised 24 hours).

That being the case I would want FT3 tested as well (all 3 tests done at the same time) to see if conversion is still good and I'd do a new test with the 24 hour gap to give more accurate results.

I'd also check Vit D, B12, and folate (ferritin will be included if you do a private test).

Ferritin 47 (11 - 307)

I will start taking ferritin supplements I think?

You can't assume that just because ferritin is low then you need iron tablets, you would need to do an iron panel. This is because you need to know your serum iron level. If you have a good level of serum iron then taking iron tablets would most likely take it too high and too much iron is as bad as too little.

If your iron panel is good, with low ferritin, then you could try raising your ferritin level by eating liver, liver pate, black pudding and other iron rich foods, which worked for me when I had low ferritin and the rest of the iron panel was good.

I have PA so get a B12 injection every third month - had it 2 weeks ago. Interesting about the ferritin - since starting supplements a few days ago I have been suffering from palpitations so will stop for now. I take VitD supplement as well as the usual recommended range of stuff - I actually feel fine but just wondered about the low dose of levo that I take - obviously correct dose for me.

As you take Vit D, are you testing twice a year to keep within the level recommended by the Vit D Council/Vit D Society of 100-150nmol/L, and do you take D3's important cofactors, magnesium and Vit K2-MK7?

And as you have B12 injections, do you take a B Complex to keep all B vitamins in balance?

Oooops, no!!! I do take Vit K and Magnesium but haven't been tested for Vit D for quite a while. I must admit I didn't realise I should take a B complex but will start as my husband has some.

As you have Hashimoto’s essential to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, B12 too

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were these last tested

High cholesterol linked to being under medicated and still slightly hypo

Can see you are on strictly gluten free diet

essential to test Ft3 obviously

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Yep, I think I will have a new full blood test, I used Blue Horizon last time so will again. Taking Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Vit D plus I have started taking MSM as I recently had a knee replacement and wanted to see if that would help with my joints. I also take high dose of fish oil - I rattle when I walk.

Medichecks often cheaper.....but obviously it’s sometimes preferable to compare two tests done by same company

Blue Horizon tests serum B12

Medichecks tests Active B12
