For the past year I have been trying to sort out my Thyroid Medication. I am now back to trying Levo plus T3.
These are my latest results.
on 100 Levo plus 18.75 T3.
TSH 0.01 (0.27 - 4.20)
FT4 21.30 (11.90 - 21.60)
FT3 4.64 ( 3.10 - 6.80)
I am still waiting for my Ear Tumour Operations which cannot be done with these results.
I take 100 levo at around 6 am. T3 of 6.25 at around 9.30am 6.25 at around 1.30pm and another 6.25 at around 5pm. All away from food. I can't take the T3 with the Levo it makes me ill.
The Thyroid s suited me as it lasted around 6 hours taken twice a day fine.
Now the T3 only last around 3 hours from taking it also it takes about 40 minutes to kick in.
Any ideas please. I have plenty of T3 to take for improvement. I have always had a high reading of FT4 even on NDT. which was fine..
Thank you

How do you know that the T3 you are now taking only lasts three hours vs six hours for the T3 in Thyroid-S? Thyroid hormone is only metabolically active once it enters cells and there is no way to measure what happens there.
Synthetic T3 is absorbed differently than the T3 in NDT which is bound to thyroglobulin, so maybe that is why you feel a difference. But I doubt that will affect how long the hormone remains active at cellular level.
Weren´t you on Metavive recently?
It´s a bit strange that your FT4 is so high when on T3 as T3 tends to lower T4. Could you possibly be on too much T4 for your needs?
I know because of how I feel after about 40 minutes I start to feel well again, then when the three hours are up I start to go downhill again. I have been writing a diary for over a year now. The NDT used to last from around 6am to around 12 noon when I would start to feel unwell again. I did try the Metavive recently but I still felt unwell. I have given in to the Levo plus T3.
My FT4 was always high even on NDT I don't know why. I have seven years of results to look at here and that was always the case, weird I know.
I could be on too much Levo for my needs yes you are right about it but it might reduce my FT3 even lower. When on NDT I was always well with my FT3 around 6 plus.
greygoose just explained why I meant. I think synthetic T3 is released faster than the T3 in NDT which is bound to proteins, but that does not affect how long it stays in the cells once it´s there.
That is why I think you did better on NDT (the T3 in it is released more slowly and results in more steady levels so less stressful for the body). I am convinced there is one brand of NDT that suits you out there. How long did you take Metavive? Have you considered bovine thyroid? There are some brands with excellent reviews, incl. Metavive III and IV.
It´s a shame slow-release T3 is not available in Europe.
I did read about a man who crushed his daily dose of T3 and added water and drunk it throughout the day. I don't know how as it's not possible to dissolve it in water. I did try Armour and that also acts much to fast as well. I have wasted so much time and money on things that don't work, it's pretty difficult.
Like I said, not all batches of Thyroid-S seem bad. Why not give it another try since it seems to be the only thing that works for you? I think there are sites where you can buy smaller quantities (100 or 250 pills).
It's to do with my Low FT3 not my TSH . I have a letter from my professor surgeon stating my TSH should always be supressed the are OK with it. Last time I visited the hospital my FT3 was only 2.76 due to a bad batch of my Thyroid s. My vitamins and minerals are optimal too. I followed all the instructions for taking the Blood Test. It's weird but my TSH was always high when on NDT and I felt well for years. I did think of reducing the Levo to 87.5 but that would reduce the FT3 maybe. I have been trying for over a year now. I have no thyroid so found it difficult because the Levo takes so long to work. The make of Levo is Thyrofix made in France but by Uni Pharma. I could increase the T3 to around 22 or even 25 a day.
The T3 that gets into the cells stays there for about three days. So, there must be come other reason why you start to go downhill after three hours. In any case, the T3 you swallow doesn't go directly into the cells. It stays in the stomach for about an hour, then into the gut, through the gut into the blood, and then goes round the body in the blood to where it's needed. So, logically, feeling well after 40 minutes can't have anything to do with the pill you just swallowed.
I understand what you are saying but perhaps my body works differently. I know that it goes into the stomach, it's weird I just am at a loss to know what to do next. You take T3 only so you know all about it. It's not logical I know I had only been on Levo for 6 months after my thyroid was removed before it was working perfectly.
Then I joined the site and put myself onto Thyroid s. I was never ill until aged 68 no problems gut or otherwise. Now I am just ill.
I have another batch here and I am thinking that's the way to go. Because I was falling over at first I thought that it was the ear tumour but it was the Thyroid s, so that didn't help matters. It took me a while to have the blood test to realise that the batch wasn't working. I then used up the old batch for 10 days and felt well again.
It's quite disconcerting when a product that has worked very well for several years fails you -
I've had 2 bottles from different batches of Thyroid S that did not not resolve my symptoms - and wasted a few months trying to find doses that worked - upping or downing my dose - which made absolutely no difference - as neither worked.
I had 2 bottles left from the same batch and started to think about the money I'd wasted.
I had no back up medications - this was a last ditch attempt that had to work and anxiously opened up one and luckily it was ok and I'm now back in the room and with immediate benefit.
I just hope this was the ' blip ' several forum members experienced and a past experience never to be repeated.
Since you have a different batch there - just go for it - you'll know soon enough and have nothing to loose.
Hi pennyannie, I'm a bit late to this thread, but are you saying that you had three bottles of the same batch of Thyroid-S, and the first you tried was no good but the other two were fine, and if so please could you let me know the batch number? This gets more bizarre and sounds like a storage or bottling issue.
I felt like that on split dosing but if I take it in one go I don't get the dips... how about taking 12.50mcg first thing in the morning and see how that feels?
I was so surprised the difference it made... I also tried different times of the day/night to find what worked best for me, I would suggest to everyone to try the same dose with all these variations before changing it
15mcg at the right time for me works so much better than 25mcg split at the wrong times even though bloods looked much the same!
