Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you did this test?
results suggest You were under medicated.
Ft4 only 40% through range
Ft3 only 11% through range
Poor conversion
Likely low vitamin levels due to being under medicated
Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested?
Tuvm slowdragon yes test done early morning fasting for 12 plus hrs only water no levo for 24hrs vits are optimal b12 d3 been taking these orally for over a year plus b vitamins but stopped all b vits 1 week before test ....i take spatone for iron daily but stopped that also for 1 week....
For clarity, the gene that affects T4 to T3 conversion is called DIO2 - that is, three letters and a number. Not D102 - a letter and three numbers. Not DI02 - two letters and two numbers.
The name comes from the enzyme that this gene affects which is a deiodinase. It removes an iodine atom from a thyroid hormone molecule - it deiodinates it.
On this forum we probably understand, but if you wish to look it up anywhere, it might help to get it right. If you are discussing with a doctor, and get it wrong, you are providing an excuse for them to dismiss what you say.
(More strictly, two single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the DIO2 gene, rs225014 and rs225015.)
Many thanks helvella yes D1O2 is what i meant typo...i have had the test carried out privately and i have also read many articles on the subject and bought many books but thank for your help.
Hi Christinah , I am sorry I can’t help you understand , but I can sympathise as I am still trying to get the right dose myself..Your results are not good ,no wonder you feel unwell.. like me you definitely need t3 . Good luck with starting ERFA hope it doesn’t take long to start working x
Thanks Bev yep just been plodding on with other issues as we all do and probably got a bit fed up testing all the time and just carried on 150mcgs daily of levo hoping id be ok ...unfortunately it bites u in the bum just to let u know its still there causing all its bloody horrible symptoms until u go downhill and feel awful ..so contacted endo told her i would like to try something else so suggested ERFA so we will see get another test done in 6 weeks.
