TSH low

I hope someone can advise me. Had bloods done last week to check my thyroid, it hasn’t been checked for over 18 months. The doctor wanted to see me about the results my TSH was 0.5 which she said was far to low. I said what was my T4 and T 3 she said they don’t request that. I said you can’t just do the TSH. She wanted me to lower my Levothyroxine from 100 a day to 75. I said no I need to have a full blood count. She was very nice but didn’t have a clue. I asked her what are the measurements for TSH she said 2.3 to 3.6 is acceptable I said no it can be lower than that if you are on medication. We agreed for me to stay on my regular dose and I am going back to have full bloods and she is going to test T4 and T 3 at last

Hi , this post contains several references /recommendations, all advising GP's to keep TSH lower.. hopefully you'll find them useful for TSH/dose discussions with GP's

Will be surprised if NHS lab tests Ft3

Your GP will have to add a note specifically requesting Ft4 and Ft3 are tested

Also ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Low vitamin levels are more likely as we get older

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Good for you! Shocking that at least 10% of her patients will have thyroid problems, but they dont know the basic facts!
