Full blood count results

Can anyone interpret these results, I have more thyroid results coming through over next few days but I know I have graves. The GP will phone me next week but just wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

I'm not medically qualified so my comments are from what I have read.

MCH: 25.8 (27.0-32.0)

Low MCH can be caused by blood loss, iron deficiency and microcytic anemia (small red blood cells).

Ferritin: 17 (10-291)

Your ferritin is very low in range, this can suggest iron deficiency as well.

Red Cell Distribution Width: 15.2 (11.5-14.5)

High RDW suggests a nutrient deficiency, could be iron, folate or B12.

Folate: 6.8 (>4.1)

Your folate level, although above the low limit, is quite low but doesn't count as deficiency.

Do you have a haemoglobin result?

I would ask your GP to do an iron panel.

You also need vitamin D and B12 tested

I did ask for vitamin d, ther nurse said they don't test this. I never asked about b12.

To be honest, if I'm not deficient I would almost guarantee that I'm at ther lower end. I feel like my graves if just affecting everything at the mo

With Hashimoto’s or Graves Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms.

While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test, or buy test online BEFORE trying strictly gluten free diet

Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet

If coeliac test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, with maximum 6 weeks wait, officially

Trying strictly gluten free diet for 3-6 months

If no noticeable improvement, reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

So the dr phoned up this morning. He said results of full blood count normal and thyroid results are starting to look more normal so just stay as you are
