Dr. Westin Childs - Thyroid and Corona Virus
Thank you for sharing. I don't know much about Dr Childs and it is great to see someone writing about the possible interaction but he lost me when he said 'your thyroid problem impacts your immune system and your immune system impacts your thyroid system' as if that's some sort of revelation.
The majority of us here have an immune system problem first and foremost. That immune system difficulty has targeted the thyroid unfortunately but the thyroid would have been fine without the attack. It frustrates me that many doctors still don't get that.
Still so glad someone is trying to address the potential impact of Covid19 on thyroid clients. That's really good!! Thanks for the share =)
Having Hashimotos and Graves disease both of which compromise the immune system, I am not taking any chances and I don't need any Dr or otherwise to give me permission to protect myself, by the same token those who believe in spite of of advice to protect themselves feel they somehow have immunity, feel free to ignore advice ! but do warn every one who may have the misfortune to believe that you are protecting yourself and in doing so protecting them too. That you haven't heeded warnings because you are a super human and that even though your health may be compromised you are immune. The people to whom I refer will know who they are, hopefully they won't be one of the ones in hospital learning all about how right these professionals are!!
Sadly, as so often happens with charismatic online doctors , he is using the opportunity to advertise his own-brand supplements.
Great article with good, practical advice. Thank you for posting
Thanks for posting. It is as I suspect, problematic for those of us taking T3 only with a suppressed TSH.
Which is problematic? Taking high doses of Vitamin D? I'm on combination, my TSH is 0.01, and I'm taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D. So far, so good.
No, not taking Vit D, that's fine. Having a suppressed TSH, I mean. Because if it's suppressed then one's thyroid cannot respond to an increased need for more thyroid hormone production. If you take T3 only you rely completely on the hormone you take, if you suddenly need more because you are ill, your thyroid cannot make it. Westin Childs says: "The TSH does play a stimulatory role with your immune system so you want there to be some TSH left. Do your best to optimize your thyroid while NOT suppressing your TSH." Easier said than done when taking T3 only!
