Corona Virus on this forum

Let me start by acknowledging fully that Corona Virus and the disease covid-19 are quite possibly the most important and immediate health issues we have ever seen.

It is wholly understandable that everyone needs and wants to ask for help, to discuss, to consider everything about the issues.

However, on this thyroid forum, if we allow general Corona Virus discussion, it could within hours drown out everything to do with thyroid disorders.

Further, there is no knowledge or experience here which is in any way deeper or more helpful than appears elsewhere.

If there were no other forums then it might possibly be something we have to accept. But there are at least thousands of possibilities including most newspapers, many existing forums and, I suspect, some new ones will be appearing.

May I suggest that we avoid discussion of Corona Virus other than specifically in relation to thyroid?

There was a thread which discussed the difficulties that the persistent low body temperature experienced in hypothyroidism might affect diagnosis of covid-19. That seems, to me, to be on topic, relevant and properly discussed here.

Discussions about holidays seems not to be related to thyroid disorders.

[This is written by me, and I am an admin, but it is in no way an official statement. Just my personal opinion. The intention is to keep the forum focussed on what it does best - thyroid support.]

Generally I agree ,but there is more to us than a thyroid or lack of and our shaky immune systems lead to other concerns being discussed such as the annual flu jab debate. which does get tedious. It does no harm to show a little of our lives beyond the thyroid and Administrators can close off discussions if they get too extended.

True , we know little about this virus .We do know it is more deadly the older you are ,the more other health problems you have and the death rate amongst males is higher than for females.

I cannot recall the detail but it was suggested that female immune systems are stronger than mens because of child bearing but as a consequence lead in later life to more auto immune diseases.

Administrators do not like having to close off discussions. And for many reasons.

First, we have to maintain vigilance and awareness to even realise what is happening.

Second, when we turn off replies, it precludes further relevant and, possibly, important posts being added to a thread.

I do appreciate that it is a tough role and administrators are sometimes rebuked for cutting short discussions.

Hear hear!

Take good care to avoid all possible contact to avoid this virus if you are possibly more susceptible due to inadequate or incorrect thyroid treatment.

I believe NDT is now maintaining my immune system adequately. Without a thyroid gland I would be most concerned about stepping past the front door if on levothyroxine alone.

I am still going into big towns and even visited a major city yesterday. I am not worried about it but I can understand others who are already ill being concerned about contracting it.

I am not going into any big towns now because we are on lockdown ... this was 2 months ago and everything has changed now.
