CBC shows I am slightly anemic- hashimoto thyroid

My recent blood test and a test 3 months ago show I am anemic. Dr put me on 50,000 iu once a week Vitamin D. Took it for 3 months, now on round two of same dose vitamin D. My concern is why am I still anemic, what do I do about it?

Allergy Blood test shows I am allergic to cows milk. Strange, I have taken milk all my life, take a glass of hot milk, sometimes with turmeric at night. So I stop drinking milk? I have osteopenia.

Thanks

Vit D is prescribed for Vit D deficiency.

Which blood test confirmed anaemia? Full blood count?

Is it Iron Deficiency Anaemia? Pernicious Anaemia (which isn't actually anaemia like iron deficiency anaemia but a type of B12 deficiency)?

Who did the allergy blood test - your doctor?

I asked my dr go to do my allergy test as I had been developing rash on my arms.

CBC blood count - no details, shows I am anemic. What should I ask my dr?

He had asked me to take iron in the past.

My b12 was nirmal at the last blood test.

Thanks

My b12 was nirmal at the last blood test.

Without a result and reference range then "normal" doesn't tell us anything. The Total B12 test has a very wide range and anywhere within the range is classed as normal, even one point up from the very bottom. If you are any lower than 550pg/ml or ng/L then it would be best to improve your level.

You should ask if he is going to treat it.

He had asked me to take iron in the past.

So was iron deficiency anaemia diagnosed then ? Did you take iron tablets? Do you have any current iron results?

Yes I took iron tablets, it is usually low.

haven’t

Had a test lately, but will ask the dr.

Thanks

I always use ferritin (iron stores) as an example to make it clear how pointless "normal" is in many cases, particularly in connection with nutrient levels.

Suppose we have three patients A, B, and C who are all considered to be healthy by their doctors. They all get ferritin measured. The reference range for the test is 10 - 150.

Results are :

A -- 10

B -- 80 (this is mid-range)

C -- 150

Doctors would call all these results "normal". But they are, in effect, telling us that A and C are both going to feel exactly the same, and that both will feel well, despite the huge difference in ferritin levels.

In reality the person who is likely to feel best is B with the mid-range result, and the patient who feels worst is A with the lowest result. Patient A would probably feel better with a higher ferritin level.

So, if you don't feel well, one or more of your "normal" results might be a very long way from optimal.
