T3 only

Hello I have been taking T3 only after being on NDT for over 7 years. I have been dealing with night sweats for over 7 years and since I have been taking T3 only my night sweats have gotten worst. I have been increasing T3 slowly and I am taking 43 3/4 from Uni-pharma without my doctor. I am not sure if the night sweats got worst from not being on a high enough dose, if that is possible. I have Hashimoto's and was on 135 mg of Erfa thyroid from Canada. I am 43 years old and doctors never tried to figured out what was causing my night sweats, I was told my hormones were fine. I would appreciate your advice. Thanks

When were folate, B12 , vitamin D and ferritin last tested

Add results and ranges if you have any

Low B12 can cause night sweats

bmj.com/content/349/bmj.g52...

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

Hi slowDragon I had all the vitamin tested and had very low D3, very low ferritin, folate doesn't have ranges at the lab where I did my blood test. I take Jarrow Formulas B-complex that has 400 mcg folate and B12 I am supposed to have B12 injections but I haven't had them for a while. I take magnesium, D3 5000 with K2, iron on some days because causes constipation when I am already severe constipated. I will start taking my B12 injections to see if it makes a difference. I am not gluten free because I tried it before and didn't see a difference. Can being on a too low of a dose cause night sweats too? Thank you for your time.

T3, just like levothyroxine, needs GOOD vitamin levels in order to work

Yes I know but my ferritin is extremely hard to raise, I still have my periods and I don't seem to absorb the iron from the food.

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

DITTO !!!!! That seems to be a very big misconception . Thyroid Patients should not think that taking the thyroid hormone is be all . The thyroid hormones needs components to make it work well for us .

Thank You SD for making this Great Awareness.

Yes, we have to learn as much as possible to get us all well since doctors can't even read test results. I was underdiagnosed for so many years and doctors wanted me to believe it was all in my head until I started to read and read because deep inside I knew there had to be something wrong with me causing so many symptoms. I lost a lot of years of my life believing these doctors, I couldn't even walk to the park. It wasn't easy for me since I am the only person in my family with Hashimoto's or any thyroid disease. When I tested all my vitamins they were all in the toilet so I am taking many things to raise my levels. Cheers to Good Health.

Do you take vit C with your iron? About 1000 mg would be good, but you could take more. That should reduce constipation.

I drink a big glass of orange juice with my iron. I take two capsules from Solgar (gentle iron) a day. Is there a vitamin c you recommend? Thank you for your time Greygoose.

I doubt any size glass of orange juice would contain enough vit C. So, best to take vit C as well.

Vit C is a very personal thing. Everyone has their favourite, so I would hesitate to recommend one. Also, I don't live in the UK, so have no idea what's available. Try asking on the forum. :)

Try a freshly made smoothie (basic apple, orange, banana, & a small slosh of water or juice is nice & also high fibre) with your iron supplements. Make sure to take it away from tea or coffee or anything with tannins & calcium that will block absorption.

You can also add a pinch if ascorbic acid (synthetic vitamin C) to water for your thyroid meds & before meals to increase stomach acid to help absorption.

I have been having night sweats again after a break of about 8 months. I did think it was because I was under active then because my levels were too low but now I am not sure. Mine could be because I am feeling under stress because of what is going on at the moment. I am also getting more palpitations which I am trying to breathe through. I think both being under active and over active can have similar symptoms. I do know being under stress can affect thyroid illness.

I feel like I have been dealing with menopause for over 7 years already and I haven't even started, this sucks. Too much, too little

Hi vitamin C fissy tablets, the ones you dissolve in water are brilliant at dealing with constipation, you need to increase dose until you get it right. This will also help you absorb both your thyroid hormones and iron. I think Vitamin C probably very good for absorbing all nutrician and dealing with gut issues. I usually take one with zinc and avoid aspartamine. You do need to keep your B12 up. Do you inject yourself or are you dependant on a health service? I imagine you have a much better idea how your hormones are than a doctor. They tell everybody who is not diabetic that hormones fine it seems. Your nutrician is glaring issue, if you can get that sorted first you might want to try some natural progesterone later if it doesn't help.

My Naturopath prescribe B12 injections and also natural progesterone cream.

Did you ever try natural progesterone? Or pregnelone? See Ray Peat.

dragonfly76 profile image
dragonfly76 in reply toSimba1992

Yes I am applying Natural Progesterone before bed. I took it before but never really continue taking. I have been having really long and heavy periods that go up to 25 days sometimes and Progesterone is good for that, so I am taking it now and will continue to see if will helps.

A lot of people would probably disagree with me on this forum re this but if you cant get your iron up and if the natural progesterone does not stop these period problems.I would ask to go on the pill and stop my periods altogether for a while. If you could get you iron up and other nutrician good you might find that you could stop the pill after a while and not have the period problems because your thyroid hormones will be affective. It all sounds like a bit of a vicious circle. I think probably your yarrow vitamin Bs a waste of money. You probably wont absorb them very well. A marmite drink might be better. I also take sea salt to up my minerals as much cheaper that buying magnesium etc.
