Where to go next? 🤪

Hi Guys, can you give me your thoughts on my results please. I take 100mcg of Levo and 30mg of Metavive daily.

Metavive has been a recent addition (2.5 months ago) in order to get my T3 level up. I am a poor converter. My T3 level historically has been bottom of range. Diagnosed Hypothyroid 26yrs ago, discovered I had Hashi’s from a private blood test around 2 yrs or so ago.

Results Jan 2020 done at 11am last Levo @ 21:00 the night before & last Metavive 15:00 the day before (not ideal I know but circumstances).

TSH 0.02 (0.3-4.8)

T4 16.8 (7.7-20.6)

T3 6.2 (4.2-6.9) Highest it’s ever been!

Iron 14.1 (11-32)

Haemoglobin 131 (120-150)

The GP called me tonight as my TSH is under range (always is!) He was in a rush so I only managed to get a few of my results. I will go and get a print out tomorrow to check everything else.

The point is I’m still sooooooo exhausted all the time. If it’s not my Thyroid then I need to get to the bottom of what is causing this fatigue.

My last T4 result (Dec 2019) was 26.8 (7.7-20.6), too high, so I decreased the Metavive from 45mg to 30mg, and my Levo from 125mcg to 100mcg, which has given me the above results, which I believe on paper looks good? I will of course pay attention to my Vit D, B12, Folate & Ferritin when I get my print out, but they should all be good as I supplement, and they were ok last time.

Could it be my Iron level? Any thoughts/advice will be gratefully received 😊 thanks Mandy

Far from ideal. There should be a 24 hour gap between the last dose of levo and the blood draw. So, you have a false high FT4, there.

With Metavive being a thyroid glandular, you should only leave a gap of 8 to 12 hours as it may give a false low FT3 result although impossible to say by how much.

Having too much T3 can be as bad as too little, so it could be that making you tired.

Hi Mandy. You sound a bit similar to me at the moment. Sorry you are struggling. Can I ask what Metative is?

Metavive is a thyroid glandular with no declared hormone content. If you Google it you will find a link to the supplier and information about the different doses/types of Metavive available. It comes as porcine and bovine thyroid glandular supplements.

Thanks susie. Hmm. Think I’d be a bit worried taking that without knowing the exact amount of hormone but if it helps some people and easily available more power to ‘em!

If you’re still feeling fatigued, could be low cortisol (you need cortisol to provide glucose in the cells), deficient in b12 (don’t take b12 supplements until you know you don’t have an absorption problem- it will skew the results), low folate or low vitamin d.

Hey Mandy, your iron needs to go up, are you supplementing.? This can cause fatigue, if it's low. Also, ferritin, your storage iron would be important here to check.

Re meds. I'm in a similar position, but I think in my case I need to further reduce Levo from mid-range and add more t3, my consultant suggested it originally. My ft4 was also high in 150 Levo. Had to go down to 137, then 125 and now 112, but I think I need 100.

I thought maybe my iron was on the low side....certainly low in the range. No one else mentioned that..but I’m going to look into it.

My Dad suffers low iron & is on iron supplements. I know we are all individual but we are very similar with our health and deficiencies.

I was out the other day with a friend and I looked down at my arms/hands and for the first time ever I was shocked at how pale/white I looked. I do eat well/clean but maybe I need and little support. Thanks for message...

Definitely, my mam had anemia , both iron and b12 deficiency anemias at different stages of her life.

Definitely worth looking into before you make any changes elsewhere.

And trust your instinct!
