I would be wary of taking Calcium with D3 - vitamin D enables fixing of the calcium already in your system and diet and really you should be taking magnesium to balance it out. Without it you risk hypercalcaemia, calcium being absorbed into your soft tissues such as kidney stones

That's not exactly right. :) Please see below. x

Thank you 10720 , I do take magnesium. When I had my thyroid removed in 2003 (cancer) one of my parathyroids came out so I must take calcium/magnesium/D3. I have had hypercalcaemia several times and it isn't funny!! It was just about trying to find the spaces, as I also take iron.

What actually happens is that taking vit D increases your absorption of calcium from food, so you need to take vit K2 to make sure it goes into the bones and teeth, and doesn't build up in the soft tissues. You take magnesium because vit D and magnesium work together and taking vit d will therefore lower your magnesium level if you don't take any, and you're probably deficient in magnesium anyway - most people are.

So, do you really need that calcium, is the question. It's not a good thing to take unless you absolutely have to.

But, yes, If D and K2 are in soft-gels, with a source of oil, you can take them together. If they are in tablet form, they need to be taken separately with some sort of fat, because they are both fat soluble and will complete for any available fat to be absorbed. Hope that makes sense. :)

Thank you @greygoose. I have been trying to get off the calcium completely and ws doing well even though my calcium readings were low, but suddenly I had the fixing around the mouth, feeling odd/confused and so got straight back on it. I take magnesium glycerinate x 2 and magnesium collagen at night that helps me sleep, my magnesium blood levels are all at the high end. I already take Vitamin D3/K2 together.

Yes makes sense!

Magnesium blood tests aren't much use, due to the way the body handles magnesium. The results will almost always be in-range, but that doesn't mean you aren't deficient. You can't rely on them. :)

Thanks for that greygoose I have heard this information before somewhere. Do you think in your opinion that it would be ok to up the magnesium and that it can't do harm?

As long as your Kidney's are healthy, they will excrete excess magnesium. But, you still don't want to over-do it. How much are you already taking?

I am back @greygoose! My computer conked out.

I take at bedtime Magnesium Glycinate x 2 +120mg I also use a BetterYou magnesium spray 3 x squirts on the belly If I get up in the night and can't sleep I take a Spanish product I discovered whilst over there called Ana Maria Lajusticia Collagen and magnesium which gives me 137 mg of Magnesium in a dose.

I think I probably take enough, I am not sure about my kidneys at one point I had CKD stage 2, but no more has been mentioned....

Well, that sounds like that should be enough magnesium, then. Doubt you need anymore. :)
