Blood test results

I'll try again, just got a print off my tests from October last year when my DR just wanted to check results as she was thinking of upping my dose of levo from 125 mcgs to a 150 to see if it would make me feel better.

I got a print of results today & TSH 0.08 ref range 0.27 - 4.2

Free Thyroxine 22 ref range 12-22

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on these results? I still feel really tired & sluggish!

Thanks

If you still feel tired and sluggish with an FT4 at the top of the range, it probably means that you aren't converting all that T4 to T3 very well. But, you need your FT4 and FT3 tested at the same time to see that. An increase in levo is not likely to help very much if that's the case. :)

Yes thats what i'm thinking, I will get another test to include FT3.

Thank you

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

For thyroid including antibodies and vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3 £29 (via NHS private service )

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.

Low vitamin levels are EXTREMELY common with hashimoto’s

Make sure to get blood test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test

Stop any biotin supplements a week before any blood tests (eg vitamin B complex)
