Thank you GP!

As per previous posts, I had been on 20 mcgs of T3 and 50 mcgs of T4 for several years - and felt well, although blood tests showed I was slightly over-medicated. I'm not hugely confident with my NHS endo, although he prescribes T3, and so saw a private endo at the end of 2019 for a second opinion. He was really knowledgeable, clearly not the "average" diabetes specialist, but not a fan of T3 meds for various reasons, and doesn't prescribe them in his NHS practice. He recommended I return to the previous level of levo-only at which I felt well.

Somewhat to my surprise, when he then wrote to my GP to summarise our consultation, they changed my prescription to levo-only. I decided to see how this went, but booked an appointment with the GP anyway to discuss my last blood results [about which I posted earlier]. This is a new GP for me, who had arranged a full set of blood testing, so I was impressed with that.

After just over 2 weeks on levo-only: I have put on 2 kilos [previously my weight was stable and I even managed to lose a bit last summer]; my face is puffy; husband says hair is no longer glossy; I'm moving over to brain-fog and feeling cold.

Saw the GP just now - and happily she has restored my NHS T3

So pleased! :)

Utterly ludicrous to withdraw 20mcg T3 in one go

If (and it's a very big if) you had to reduce/stop T3 you would have to reduce T3 and replace with increase in Levothyroxine at a very very much slower pace .....eg T3 2.5mcg reduced and hold for month, then reduce by another 2.5mcg etc etc

Likely to have dramatic reduction in vitamin levels as direct result of withdrawal of T3

Ask GP to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

How much was Levothyroxine increased to compensate for stopping T3?

I was put on 125 mcg x 5 days and 150 mcg x 2 days. The 25 tablets were teva, and whilst I don't seem to have had a negative reaction to them per se, they are twice as big as the 100 mcg tablets.

I'm really pleased to be allowed back on T3 and shall be boosting vitamins. I think that'll improve hair etc too.

Would also mention that I took hubbie along AND referenced some of the things I've picked up from this forum - thank you to everyone - and the lovely GP took it all on board and said she was learning me.
