Getting GP to take over T3 prescription?

so, (happy dance) after 18 months of T3 trial, NHS Endo has written to GP saying T3 is a necessity and should be prescribed indefinitely. Then it all got a little vague in letter, saying he advised me to approach them to see how their reaction of taking over! This was about a month ago.

so what should happen in this scenario?

My GP prescription pre lio was 150mcg of levo. Whilst on the trial, the endo dropped this to 100 5x a week and added 20mcg of lio. The repeat prescription on the NHS app happily changed to 100mcg of levo 5x a week whilst Endo prescribed the lio.

My (Endo) confirmed prescription is now 75 mcg of levo per day plus the 20 lio. My repeat prescription on the NHS app this time remains at 100mcg of levo x5 a week., and no sign of lio.

what do I do? Do I make an appointment to see GP? Ring the Sugery and talk to reception? How do these things work? I do not want to upset my surgery or GP by being bolshy. I just want to know how the system works and politely get them to take over.

he also mentioned in the letter the ‘local formularies’ might take issue?

I would phone and ask the surgery whats best to do. GP might be abe to just phone you as opposed to having an in person appointment.

Why has the Endo now dropped your levo? Do you have blood results on 75mcgs daily? Might be worthwhile contacting Endo's secretary to question drop in Levo as well.

Ok thanks. The levo, overall has gone up. 100 5x a week so 500 per week, 75 everyday so now 525 a week!

My mistake. Thats fine then.

If you can, then speak to an open minded GP. Sometimes when a consultant has prescribed a 'special' for me, my GPs discuss it in a weekly meeting and decide if they will take over the prescription. Sometimes they will and other times not! I believe they are not obligated to do so if they don't feel confident, so having your Endo's back up is key as is picking the right GP to talk to.

Good luck!
