short synacthin test

just had result showing low adrenal output. has anyone had this test, how were you treated and what was the outcome please?

I haven't had the test as my cortisol is too low for me to have it safely. However I am treated with Hydrocortisone & may be on it for the rest of my life. If your cortisol levels are low then have a look at addisons.org.uk/index.php/i... for advice & information

Hello Siskin, I had the test and was originally diagnosed with Primary Adrenal Insufficiency but now it looks as though I have Secondary. The day after the Synacthen Test I had the results which were low, around 45 I think, and was immediately put onto Hydrocortisone. If you have your results I would chase your GP as you should be put onto Hydrocortisone and possibly Fludrocortisone. If you do have Adrenal Insufficiency you will be on a drug regime for life.

Thank you for reply. doc says result was 200 and is waiting for consultant to make a decision. No Appt with the consult until end of Jan. Uguuuuuugh.

I waited all morning for a doctor to do this test and he said beforehand that it would be negative. I turned up at 8 am at considerable cost to me and the doctor did not turn up till 1 pm!
