Does anyone know if burning mouth is related to thyroid. I have under active thyroid. It feels like I have scalded my mouth.
Burning mouth: Does anyone know if burning mouth... - Thyroid UK
Burning mouth
When were B12, folate, ferritin, iron and vitamin D last tested?
Google suggests most likely low vitamins, especially B12
Very common on Levothyroxine to have low vitamin levels especially if not correctly treated
Do you have recent Thyroid results you can add?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels and thyroid antibodies if never had these tested
You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3 £29 (via NHS private service )

Some medicines cause it as a side effect. Have you switched brands or started a new prescription?
Hi, i take citalopram 20mg at 6pm and 75mg thyroxine at 8am. They usually send different brands for both. I have my prescriptions delivered by pharmacy to you and they advised to speak to my GP. I have tried to request the same brand with my GP but they were unable to do this. What is the difference with different brands?
Levothyroxine brands can effect people differently so it's worth trying to stick to one brand for a few months and see if it clears up. If not then try another brand for a few months to see if it improves. If the online pharmacy cannot oblige you might have to ring around local pharmacies to find out if they can supply continuously the same brand. You could try boots own packaged levothyroxine for example, or Lloyd's.
I don't know about citalopram which is often prescribed to people with thyroid conditions but does have side effects so it could be that.
Hi
You should not take any medication at the same time with thyroxine. You need to leave 4 hours space. I too take citalopram . I was advised to take it before bed and then take the thyroxine first thing in the morning
