I have been on 18.75 T3 & 100 thyroxine, my last bloods were T4 19 & T3 6.9 (top of range 6.2) but my Endo was happy for me to stay on dose as I felt well.
Felt unwell the past few weeks having a few palpitations and very tired, had my bloods done and my T4 is 18 but my T3 is 7.5 , I have spoken to my consultants secretary and told to reduce my dose to 12.5 and he is going to ring me today , just wanted to ask is this normal that the T3 can suddenly go really high , I thought I’d cracked it ?
How long have you been on t3? How slowly did you work up to that dose? Might be that you are now beginning to feel the full effect.
Since March and started slowly , and monitored by my Endo every 4-6 weeks, due to see him November 17th .

No I don’t I had a full medichecks and results posted on here, and antibodies were all ok .
Changed diet or resolved stomach issues which might mean better absorption or conversion.
I added T3 to my Levo late 2015, gradually increasing the dose slowly over time. In my quest to find the correct balance of Levo and T3, tweaking both lead me at one point to take 31.25mcg T3 with my Levo. I've since found where my FT4 and FT3 need to be for me and further tweaking eventually meant that I was best on 18.75mcg T3 and I've been taking that amount for a year.
Other non-thyroid medical conditions have manifested during this time and I'm unwell at them moment (nothing to do with thyroid). Recent blood tests show that my FT4 and FT3 had gone higher than normal so I have now reduced T3 to 12.5mcg as well as reducing my Levo and will check new levels in a few weeks to see how things are. Maybe whatever is wrong with me at the moment has messed with my thyroid hormones.
I have had many antibody tests over the years (when they come as part of a test bundle) and they always come back between 6 and 12, never any higher, so I assume that's not a problem for me, and I've never had any Hashi-type swings.
I think that we can never be certain, it can be unpredictable. Some of us can tell just by how we feel if we are on the right dose, some of us with other conditions do need to take results into account.
thank youSusie , I recently had an operation to replace a knuckle joint , and have felt unwell since , 2 of my other fingers on the same hand are very swollen and they seem to think maybe the cast was too tight, but I think I have some inflammation and my body is trying to deal with that , been told to wear compression tape on them to reduce the swelling, and will see the physio next week . My Endo yesterday left a message for me to reduce to 16.25 mcg of T 3 ? I have 25mcg pills so have left a message to ask how on earth can I do that ?
16.25mcg? I would imagine that's impossible. I can understand how it's easy enough to go from 18.75 to 12.50 but I doubt very much it's easy to split the tablet any smaller than quarters.
Yes I’m intrigued to how he gets round that one ?
Just had a response from my Endo’s secretary and he has suggested I stay on the higher dose and has brought my appointment forward to next Monday , so now I’m confused , do I revert back to 18.75 ? Or stay on 12.5 , I explained had felt unwell that’s why I had my bloods done early , so don’t know what to do , any advice would be really appreciated x
If there is a chance that a blood test will be done then stay on your current dose. When we have a dose change it's best to retest 6-8 weeks later to check levels, it can take that long for levels to settle.
Also, ask the endo how you were supposed to get 16.25mcg T3 and let us know what he says 
Thanks Susie for your quick response, I don’t think he will do bloods as only had them done last week , I only reduced to 12.5 for 3 days so do you think I should go back up to 18.75 today and will my results stay about the same ? Also if I start to get palpitations again then I know it’s too much for me and can tell him when I see him next Monday .

I'm sorry I can't make that decision for you. If I had an over range FT3 result and palpitations I would think I was overmedicated and reduce my dose.
Yes I agree, this is certainly not an easy journey to be on for sure ? I will ask him the question about splitting my pills 🤷🏽♀️
Many people need their Free T3 to be above range to feel well, so you need to work out if you are over-medicated or not.
If your free T3 is too high your heart rate will be high and you will feel shaky. Many other symptoms can indicate either high or low so can be confusing. A very reliable indicator is basal temperature, taken over several days before getting out of bed.
The thing is I feel unwell ,and my joints hurt, and feel exhausted, so until I hear from my Endo I have reduced down to 12.5 , at 6.9 I did feel well ( 6.2 upper limit ) but think this is just a bit too much . I will take my temperature from tomorrow , thank you .
