Discomfort/Pain in Thyroid are?

Hi all,

I have recently introduced levo back in - switching from 50mg T3 to 150mg T4 & 25 T3. This has caused me to become very symptomatic again and has brought with it a new issue. I seem to have developed a large sack of mucin under my chin and around my neck and jaw line. As well as a discomfort/pain in the thyroid area, it sometimes hurts to swallow and feels almost like its strained? I have always had a bit of a double chin but nothing like in the picture. Granted I have put on about 10 kilos in the 8 weeks I have been back on Levo. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts/comments very welcome! Rxx

I get a painful thyroid area and voice that disappears when I am undermedicated. Your body will have taken quite a shock with the meds change and will need time to settle.

Hi Lalatoot, and thank you for your reply. Yes it certainly feels that way. Have you the same lump of fat under your Chin as well? Rxx

No lump of fat but it often feels harder and slightly larger. Mine depends on how undermedicated I am and sometimes goes for a day or two.

Ok, i think I may try and get some blood tests and see whats going on. Though symptoms would suggest am not properly medicated

Your body will need time to adjust to the big change in meds and I think you will need to have a period of adjusting and blood testing until you get optimal. All the best.

Thank you, in your experience, how long does it take to adjust? I appreciate this will be different for different people :) xx

Did you do that all in one go? Why did you want to go back to levo? There must have been a reason why you were on T3 only.

Yep all in one go- to be honest I easily tolerated 100mg of T3 all in one go. Went down to 50 when I was pregnant and as I felt ok thought I would stick to it. Then started feeling unwell again(think I have other hormone issues as well) so instead of upping T3 thought I would try a t4/T3 combo as I am finding it hard to source the T3 and doctors/endos will only support me on levo

oh sorry just reread your message! with the Levo I was prescribed 50mg for 6 weeks then the next prescription was 150mg. I took the 50 then upped to 100 after 6 weeks and now am on my 1st week of 150 plus 25 T3

Even so, those are huge increases. And, without labs to back them up?

They did labs after the 50 and then increased to 150. Yeah I thought it was a leap so tried to do 100 then 150. Gonna get some private labs done this week as they don’t want to see me until December

Be careful. They obviously have no idea what they're doing!
