Hi, does any one else suffer with joint pain and stiffness. Some times I feel that I cam barely walk.. it'd likes the joints and ligaments don't want to move.
I cant work out what is thyroidal and what is age related.
I am currently taking HRT.. and this helped for a little while but it was very short lived.

I have wrist&joint pain at different doses, when my dose is too low, my ankles and knees hurt and I have difficulty moving, I need anti-inflammatories for this. Opposite, when my dose is too high, I no longer have the pains described above, but my soles of feet hurt when I barely walk as if I have nails(needles and pins) and burns in my soles.
It sounds like you might be under replaced. Do you have your latest blood results? You are legally entitled to a printed copy of your blood results. Ask GP receptionist for a printed copy or in England you can get the NHS app. Some surgeries can give you access to your blood results on that, ask reception at GPs for access.
When hypo we get low stomach acid which means we cannot absorb vitamins well from our food, regardless of a great diet. For thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL levels of vitamins. Have you recently or could you ask your GP to test levels of ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? If GP refuses you can buy private blood tests - see link with discount codes. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...
Yes. I’ve had rigid Achilles heels for 2 years but since adding T3 to my Levo it has completely disappeared. I’ve also had Carpal tunnel syndrome for many years and needed injections until I started Levo a couple of years ago. I’ve not needed injections since but still wear splints at night. Fingers joints are swollen and painful.
I’m 58 and feel 98 at times. But better than I was before Levo
Have you tested Vit D? Low Vit D can cause muscle and joint aches and pains. I had dreadful stiffness in my feet/ankles and when I got up in the morning all I could do was shuffle for a while, I tested my Vit D and I was severely deficient. Once I optimised my Vit D level there has been no further trouble.
GPs are reluctant to test Vit D (they say it's an expensive test) so you might want to consider doing a private test with an NHS lab who offer an easy dried blood spot test to the general public:
You should not supplement unless you test, this will then tell you if you need to supplement and at what dose.
See if GP will test the key nutrients listed, if not then this can be done with one of our recommended private labs, check out Medichecks, Blue Horizon and Monitor My Health, links and details of discounts here:
I recently had to change the strength of my levothyroxine as no stock of my normal 50mcg Liquid Levothyroxine. So the alternative was 125mcg with a lower dose daily. I followed the new dose precisely. After a week or so each morning when I got up I felt like I’d done some massive workout. All my muscles were stiff and painful even my stomach muscles. I got my bloods done and my T4 level had shot up. My T3 level was much higher than usual and my TSH was suppressed. So the culprit was too high strength of levothyroxine. I also take T3 liothyronine medication and I’d kept to my regular doses of 5mcg twice a day. I’ve managed to get a bottle of my usual 50mcg Liquid Levothyroxine and started taking it. Within a few days the stiff painful muscles went away. So it was definitely the much higher strength of medication in my case. Have you checked your bloods lately. Are you slightly over medicated? What strength medication are you on. For example if it’s 100mcg tablets maybe take half in the mornings and half going to bed. Or request 50mcg strength tablets. It’s just a trial to see if that’ll help. I was really surprised that upping the strength but also lowering the dose can make. I’ve learnt something new.
