Meds (and I'll include NDT-like supplements in that) are designed to be taken as instructed because the pharmacokinetics have been scientifically calculated accordingly, so it's inadvisable to interfere with their form (and slow or delayed release meds should never be modified). For instance, the capsule cases and any coating on a tablet will protect the active ingredient from stomach acid during its passage through the stomach, ensuring it reaches the small intestine intact if that is where it is to be absorbed. How much, if at all, you are likely to be affected if you chose to empty the capsules will be individual to you and your GI tract.
