Struggling to my T3 dose right

Hi

I’m really struggling to get my dosage correct with my cynomel.

I was taking Turkish Tiromel for over 5 months & have put a lot of weight on.

I have been taking 75mcg 50mcg 62.mcg. I held fine on all doses. I’ve even tried dosing 3 x but i’m still extremely hypo.

My stomach has never looked so big. My weight gain is everywhere. Last year Oct I got to my lowest weight since having hashimotos with 50mcg cynomel.

Is it likely I still need 50mcg cynomel.

Hey hey, are you saying that you feel better on 50 mcg of t3? Sometimes people out on weight when dose it too high.

I put on weight with T3. My weight would just jump like 5lbs overnight in the weeks after a dose increase. A side effect of T3 is weight gain as well as weight loss, so I am obviously one of the unlucky ones. I am lucky that I have found 40-50mcg divided into 3 doses is best in terms of alleviating my Hypo symptoms but I have stayed overweight, although the weight gain has ceased now I've found the therapeutic range for me. The Thyroid Patients Manual suggests that 50-80mcg is the level at which most people feel a significant alleviation in symptoms so maybe look at adjusting dose in this range while also considering the variables below.

Gluten Free has also significantly helped my symptoms of exertion fatigue and chronic inflammation, I was reluctant to go down this route for a while but it has improved my symptoms as well as bringing my CRP (inflammation marker in blood) into range and reducing my TPO antibodies into a range so I actually see where I am up to.

Have you tested your vitamin levels to work towards getting them to optimal levels.

I have managed to lose weight in the past on T3 but this time my weight just keeps increasing.

I wonder if I need more as I don’t feel over medicated

I didn’t realise for sometime that T3 can cause weight gain but I have been taking 75mcg (3 x 25mcg spaces through the day) and I started to feel overmedicated so reduced the dose gradually to 62.5mcg and then 50mcg. Each drop took a few weeks to adjust to but I now find I feel the same but I am able to loose weight with low carb and no sugar. Hope this helps.

The blog Tired thyroid (tiredthyroid.com) claims that too much T3 causes insulin resistance which in turn leads to weight gain. I had never read that anywhere else - most blogs and forums and books on T3 only mention its fat-burning abilities - but it seems T3 can cause weight gain in some people - especially if they are on too much for their needs.

I have put on a lot of weight on NDT which also contains T3 so taking T3 is NOT a guarantee for weight loss.

I was taking 50mcg in October 2019 & came to my lowest weight since the last 9 years. My cynomel ran out.. I started Tiromel & have put on 20 pounds

Be aware that Tiromel tablets contain a lot of excipients. They started to work better for me when I crunched them up before swallowing.
