Tiromel - weak batch or is it me?

I've been taking Tiromel for almost a year now and have started to notice my thyroid symptoms creep back. I think one of the newer batches I am using might be weak but i dont know how to tell for sure. My Free T3 was low when testing, which is quite concerning when i'm on 62.5mcg tiromel & one naturethroid tablet per day.

The batch I did well on was 18K097, but the batch I think is weaker is 17K633 - how would I go about checking this? I am not sure whether to up my dose and test again in 6 weeks, or whether to try a new batch on the same dose. Can anyone help?

i got the batch numbers the wrong way around.. it's 18K097 that's been giving me problems!

I don't know if they're all weak, but I had sourced some Tiromel recently and I might as well not bother, they were that weak!

did you have 5mcg or 25mcg? my first few batches were great, which is why I am not sure if I have a weak batch or my body just isnt reacting to the dose I am on.. it's so difficult to tell!

I had 25 mcg tablets. They definitely worked better for me a few years ago, but not this batch. Batch number is 18K098

Sounds like a close batch to mine so maybe there were a few weak ones.. hopefully it’s just a one off and newer batches will be back to their usual strength!

Do you crunch the tablets helen_m ? Tiromel contains more fillers than most, so if you swallow them whole they may not work well for you.

I did swallow them whole, but when I was adding a quarter in the afternoon, I crunched them in my mouth and still not much effect, if any

One quarter of a tablet is 6.25 mcg, a tiny supplementary dose. I know of several people on the forum who switched to crunching Tiromel and found it made all the difference. Perhaps worth a try, if you have any left.

I’ve been trying this too as I wondered that due to their hardness this might be the case. I’ll see how I go!

It strikes me that you may just need a dose increase, and/or attention to any nutritional deficiencies that may impact thyroid hormone metabolism. We have to be vigilant to any changes in clinical signs that may indicate further depletion of natural thyroid function - assuming you still have your thyroid gland.

I've been taking Tiromel for several years and find it very consistent in effect from batch to batch, even when I had to take some that had passed its expiry date.

Thanks it’s good to know you haven’t had any issues. I am beginning to wonder if I need to either crunch them more or up my dose. I’m going to up it by 12.5 and crunch them and retest in 5 weeks. Thanks for your help!
