Bad batch of Tiromel?

I've used Citomed T3 in the past which worked fine (felt warmer, higher body temperature, ..) but just switched over to Tiromel because it's cheaper. It seems it has nearly no effect, no change in body temperature, feeling cold again. As i measure my body temperature every day, this is clearly to the Tiromel.

And to test it, i just took Citomed again, and felt an effect 30 minutes later, whereas the Tiromel does nothing. The vendor seems reliable, but only used him once.

The batch number is: 20N293 (expiry 05.2022)

Has anybody the same issue?

Thank you.

I am keeping a record of reported ineffective batches. This number hasn't been mentioned before. It will be interesting to see if any other members have received this batch and how they are finding it, or indeed if there are any more recent batches that members are finding ineffective as it's been some time since a bad batch has been mentioned.

I would suggest that you contact your supplier and relate your experience. They may be willing to replace it (one has that I have been informed of).

Every mention of Citomed I can find, quickly, refers to a 50 microgram product. Can you confirm that you haven't just ended up on half the dose?

I didn't notice that, I thought it was Cytomel misspelt! Well spotted!

Yes, it is a 50µg product of citomed, which i've split into quarters. But this was always cumbersome as the tablet is hard to split. So for citomed, i mostly even took less than 12.5µg because the rest was crumbles of the tablet.

I've split the tiromel in half, so the dosage should be equal. And the tiromel is much easier to split, nearly no crumbles.

Thanks for clarifying. Which was all I was trying to achieve as I know nothing else of use.

I hope anyone who has or takes Tiromel will check their batch numbers.

Just googled for Cytomed and only getting references to body building and similar. One link seemed to imply that Cytomed contains something else as well as T3.

zbs5 profile image

It's Citomed 50 µg from Balkan Pharmaceuticals and should only contain T3.

I can't find what I'd regard as any reliable and bona fide information about Cytomed.

Multiple pictures - which show several different products. Some have DesuMedical on them, but not at all clear who they are.

Are there any more details on the packaging you have? Or any Patient Information Leaflets?

It's called Citomed (with an "i") and you can find information about it on their website:

balkanpharmaceuticals.com/c...

The package and the blister looks like on their website. I must admit the website looks a bit shady, but the product works as expected.

I've just checked my latest order of Tiromel and it is this batch number. I haven't opened this pack yet but I may try it in the next couple of days.

How quickly would we notice a difference if there was a problem ? :)

Once you've tried it would you mind letting me know by PM whether this batch is a problem for you. I've added it to my list so would appreciate any further feedback. Many thanks.

Of course, it might be a few days, will I just feel under medicated , and will it happen within a few days do you think. :)

SeasideSusieRemembering in reply to knitwitty

I really don't know I'm afraid, I imagine at some point you will start to feel undermedicated, as if there is less T3 than normal or none at all in the tablets.

Thank you, I'll just watch out for any changes , I'm expecting that I'll notice in a week or so if the whole batch is iffy. I'll maybe go back to checking basal temp etc...

I'll keep you posted either way. :)

If you still have some known good product, try the suspect one soon. That way, you can at least switch back.

Will do, I ordered the suspect batch recently and I have enough of the good stuff to last me a couple of months at least, I'm always wary of running my supplies right down !!I'll keep everyone posted, I'm hoping that any problems will manifest themselves quite quickly. :)

Hi knitwitty. I was wondering if you noticed any changes with this batch in the end. I only recently started taking Tiromel and I seem to be taking a lot of it but feeling worse, with low temperature to confirm. It's the same batch number mentioned here.

Hi Can, I have been fine with this batch and I recently had a blood test done and that was the same as on previous batches. Sorry you're not feeling too good. :)

As far as I understand Tiromel is weaker compare to other brands. I haven't used this particular batch myself yet but a friend who is very susceptible have used this batch and was happy with it. You need up your dose of Tiromel of you are comparing with other brands..

Hope this helps!

I use Tiromel and am super sensitive to medication strength changes and have had a couple of suspect batches recently but I am fine on this one. In my opinion it is back to the original strength of those with a BBE of October 2020. I have been on it now for about a month - usually if a batch is not good I will know about it within 24-48 hours as I get severe reynauds when my level of T3 drops by even a tiny amount so I am confident of the stock I am using with this batch number. From my experience, Tiromel strength does vary from batch to batch and when compared to different brands of T3. So for instance, I have to use more Tiromel than I do Morningside and sometimes more Tiromel (or less) when changing from an existing batch to a new one but I have never used Citomed so could not comment on comparison between the two.

zbs5 profile image
zbs5 in reply to hackman

Can you estimate how much Tiromel is needed when comparing it to Morningside? E.g. 25mcg equals N mcg Morningside?

hackman profile image
hackman in reply to zbs5

From my experience this changed from batch to batch. I no longer have any Morningside left so would not be able to estimate it for this batch - sorry!

Hello. I’d love to hear any reports of Tiromel being good again and what batch numbers and dates. I’ve recently changed to Liothyronine because my Tiromel was suddenly about as weak as compressed talc, but unlike many people I felt better on the ‘good’ Tiromel last year. I felt just like a normal person and forgot about temperatures and fits of unsteadiness . I so much miss it and wonder daily if it will ever be redeemed and be effective again.Joeyis7

Hello,

Me too.

I have been feeling 'hypo' again, for the last couple of months, so, I thought that my body was getting used to taking Tiromel.

Now I realize that I must have a weak batch.

I used to take Cytomel, 75mcg...then moved, and could no longer buy Cytomel, so I bought Tiromel, and only seemed to need half of my original dose....I took half the strength, using Tiromel, but with equal results...I felt good, until the last couple of months.

I don't have the batch number with me right now, but I will add it soon, expiry being 2023....I'm currently having to take 4 of the Tiromel 25mcg tablets, and I'm still not feeling good...fatigue, brain fog, depression etc

This has really put me off buying Tiromel.

Shield 👋
