Sorry... don’t want to post here constantly but it’s abit of a relief being able to ask questions and post my thoughts haha

Trying to maximise my strength gains and muscle size in the gym and I’m just wondering what supplements people take to keep themselves healthy in general eg multivitamins, magnesium and what are considers the holy vitamins hypothyroid people need?

I’ve tried boron as clinical studies have shown increases in testosterone and similarly with ashwaganda but I don’t know if these things or certain supplements aren’t recommended for someone with my condition

If you’re a supplement expert tell me what to take because I’ve got a shelf with 60 bottles on it and not sure what’s best for me.

Multivitamins are a waste of money. They tend to contain too little of anything to help improve low levels, often use the cheapest and least absorbable form of active ingredients, and usually contain things we should only supplement if tested and found to be deficient - eg calcium, iodine. Also, they frequently contain iron and that is something that needs to be taken on it's own, 2 hours away from other supplements as it affects their absorption.

The vitamins we need are those that we have tested for and shown to be low or deficient. Always suggested here is to test

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Vit D and iron supplements can build up to toxicity levels so we can't supplement those without knowing our level. B vitamins generally tend to be water soluble so excess would be excreted, but if we don't need them and take them then we have very expensive urine.

Ashwagandha, although mean to be an adaptogenic herb, can actually lower cortisol.

Why have you got 60 bottles of supplements? What are they and why have you been taking them? Have you tested any of your vitamin levels?

I’m abit of nerd when it comes to sports science so I’m interested in any edge, I box and power lift so I try to optimise. As regards to why I have so many it’s because it took a year of feeling like garage to be diagnosed and I was trying anything to feel better.

I know I was tested for b12 and folate and that came back fine but nothing else as far as I’m aware

Protein, protein & more protein. That’s the only thing to maximise strength & muscle size. (When you exercise, you tear down muscle fibres, which then need protein to rebuild & get strong. I’ve boxed & gym’d for 20 plus years, even struggled when hypo. Protein is only natural way 👍
