Labs done about a month ago after approx. 2 months of taking newly added T3
5 Mcg with Levo 125 (Switched from long term Synthroid to generic Levo) . Total thyroidectomy years ago.
Labs about a month ago :
Free T3 =2.9 Range 2.3 -4.2
Free T4 =1.4 Range 0.8- 1.8
TSH =0.01 Range 0.4 - 4.5
After labs I increased T3 to 10 mcg daily with 100 mcg generic levo,, then a week ago I increased T3 to 12.5mcg. with 100 mcg Synthroid (Switched Back to taking Synthroid) .
Will be doing Labs in 2 weeks ..
I have noticed for a few months that I am developing a large amount of loose jelly -like fat (Jiggly) on upper arms ,and thighs.
I work out and I watch my diet. but no change at all
Anyone experienced this? Any thoughts on this ? .Thanks.

Low Human Growth Hormone. Your FT3 is very low and - presumably - was lower. You need good levels of FT3 for the pituitary to be able to make decent levels of HGH. When HGH is low, muscles are reabsorbed and replaced by fat, and the result is the swinging bat-wings under your arms. You probably have thin lips and receding gums, too, don't you? All signs of low HGH, I'm afraid.
Yes I am noticing all of the mentioned signs / symptoms. I now have 25 mcg tabs so I intend to increase the T3 to 25 mcg in 1/4 tab increments every 2 weeks as tolerated. Please any suggestions would be appreciated ?
Ah, ok. Well, there's not anything you can do, really. Except try and increase your HGH by increasing your FT3. But, I doubt if you'll ever completely reverse it. I was on HGH injections for a few years, but it didn't change the physical signs.
Free T3 was borderline low even before the addition of T3. I knew that I needed to add T3 but I did not want to go hyper so when I increased the T3 I lowered the T4. I intend to increase the T3 to 25 mcg but I am doing it slowly. Thanks
🧐 I’m not sure that’s the best way to go. When I had introduced 5mcg T3 with 125 Levo I’d have kept the Levo the same while increasing the T3. Otherwise what are you really gaining?
My intention is to get to a 4:1 ratio of T4/T3. I was not sure how I would tolerate the T3 initially and many people had suggested a decrease in the T4 , hence the decrease . I will start to alternate T4...... 100 and 125 mcg every other day for 2 weeks , and depending on how I feel I will go back to 125 mcg daily. I just need to feel well again and lose some of this fat. Did the 4:1 ratio work for you.? Thank you so much.
Are you/do you feel the T3? I guess that’s the main point. Were you on 150 before introducing 5mcg and dropped to 125?
I guess my fear for people is that they go too slow. At one point when you dropped to 100mcg you’d have been taking less weekly hormone replacement than before you introduced the T3. Like going 2 steps backwards and 1 step forward. Only now do you have a slight weekly increase.
If you don’t feel sensitive to the t3 I’d go back up to 125 Levo plus 10, hold for 7-14 days, then introduce another 5mcg in 3 split doses. You don’t have to do bloods every 6wks. The ratio of 4:1 can be too prescriptive. Now is more about feeling your way.
I’m on way more than 4:1 ratio
I was on 1100mcg per week before adding T3 and dropped to 925mcg plus 15mcg T3 ( which equals 1345mcg total Thyriod per week, roughly if you use the 4:1ratio)
So right from word go I introduced more replacement, I was ill, I didn’t want to take any less hormone)
After 6wks I upped to 20mcg so my Total weekly is now 1485mcg but my T4 has dropped so I think I’ll increase Levo, I’ll add an extra 25 per week, hold for a week and then see. I may have to drop back to 15mcg T3 if I feel I’m going hyper but I’d rather keep my T4 up as much as I cam and allow my body to do as much converting as it can.
I know we’re all different and I have heard some stories of people adding too quickly but then I think some are being too cautious. I am a very active person with 4 teenagers and love exercise so maybe my dosing suits my lifestyle. I felt the benefit of T3 from day 1 it was fabulous but I’ve never had heart palps or anxiety or insomnia ect associated with going too quick or too much.
This is just a different perspective. I’m sure you will do what’s best for you 🤗
