Lactose update!

Hi Fellow sufferers, my original post on here was about taking a lactase tablet with my medication to help with stomach issues I was getting from the Levo. I tried Teva the lactose free brand but had terrible bloating issues and constipation with that brand, (mannitol I’m guessing was the problem there.) So have gone back to Amus my original brand as at least I could tolerate that better but I was still getting issues with the lactose. Worst thing was heartburn at night, felt like I was burning up and feeling exhausted the next day. I found that my usual brand of lactase was too strong to take with the Levo, ( bit like taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut!) Plus some of the fillers in it were not helping with absorption of the Levo. So just wanted to share with you and particularly anyone who has had the same problems as me, that I have found that baby lactase drops have helped my situation enormously. I put just one drop of Colief in a small amount of water about 20-30 mins after taking Levo in the morning and almost straight away my tummy feels better and it feels pretty good for the rest of the day. Also I’m not burning up at night either, sleeping like a baby 👶. I think as a result of having some time of not absorbing the Levo properly I probably haven’t been absorbing nutrients properly either, down to too much acid. So that would also account for my extreme tiredness. Am taking Vit d supplement as my bloods showed slight deficiency but am going to top up with Vit b complex for a bit to see if that helps energy levels also but I have to say after taking the Colief for a few days now I am beginning to feel more energetic and less tired. I know there could be other issues causing me problems and I think I might take one of these private blood tests and post on here so that I can get a true picture as to what’s going on but for now it’s baby steps and just trying one new thing a time. Thanks for listening and hope this has helped someone . Have a good Monday 😊 xx

I don't think too much stomach acid stops you absorbing nutrients. It's too little stomach acid that does that. Plus hypos usually have low stomach acid, not high.

Hi Greygoose , I suppose that is true but it feels like a lot of acid when it’s keeping me awake. I’ve always suspected it was low stomach acid that was causing the problem.

When you have low stomach acid, and your food isn't digested properly, it ferments in your stomach, causing a volcano effect which forces acid up into you eosophagus. That would feel like a lot of acid, when it really isn't.

Yes I agree with Greygoose. I too believe It is the opposite to what you think. Acid reflux and heartburn is normally due to low stomach acid.

Apple cider vinegar in water helps correct but doesn’t taste good!
