Can anyone advise if they have used acupuncture therapy in place of meds for their hypo diagnosis? Have symptoms subsided?

I've had plenty of acupuncture, but it doesn't have any effect on the thyroid. It cannot replace thyroid hormone replacement (levo, NDT, T3), it can only ease symptoms temporarily. :)

Thanks, just for the temp ease of the symptoms will do but definitely will make sure I take the meds

Way back in 1980 when I had no idea what was wrong with me as I suffered severe fatigue, I went to acupuncturist, had some needles in my ears and standing on some special paper.

She told me there certainly was something wrong but it was way beyond Chinese medicine to do anything about it. I had a benign goitre which was strangling me and, causing shallow breathing and giving me pneumonia.

The "Treatment" did, however have a significant effect, as within a week I saw an endo who sent me straight to hospital the same night. A pity as I had booked tickets at the local theatre for Russ Abbott's Madhouse the same night - I never did see him, but my mother enjoyed the show in my place!

On this basis, save your money and don't bother with the accupuncture.

😂👏🏼 the theatre part made my day. My private medical covers the cost of acupuncture thankfully. Might give it a go just for the brain fog and relaxation in that case.

d_rav,

Thyroid hormone is as vital to the body as food and water. You surely wouldn't expect acupuncture to deal with the symptoms of starvation or dehydration. Rather, you would take the vital food and drink. So my guess is that acupuncture is unlikely to do much for symptoms caused by inadequate thyroid hormone. But maybe it's worth a try for a little temporary relief whilst you're adjusting your dose of thyroid hormone to the best it can be for you :)

As a qualified acupuncturist, I’d say it wouldn’t work. Needling is wonderful for many things, & would make you feel good, but not help thyroid hormone deficiency.

Has an acupuncturist told you otherwise?

Hi thanks for the reply, no they haven’t said they can replace hormone but did say they can relieve the symptoms I.e body aches and anxiety.
