Hypo With Palpitations..

Hello all. I haven't been on in awhile but now I'm having issues and would like to pick your brains...I would like to know if heart palpitations can be a sign of under medication as well as over medication. Also I would like to know if anyone have has an issue where your stomach seems to vibrate like a washing machine. I suffer from constipation as well as hypothyroidism and have pernicious anemia. I take monthly b12 injections for the anemia as well as supplement with sublingual.

Palpitations are listed in Signs and Symptoms of Hypothyroidism :

thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-un...

so if undermedicated then yes that could be the cause of your palpitations.

Some members have mentioned that they get vibration sensation although I can't remember if anyone has specifically said in the stomach.

Constipation is another symptom of hypothyroidism. Although I'm optimally medicated my constipation has never resolved so I use magnesium citrate which I find effective.

Thank you for your response. My doctor reduced my synthoid from 150 mcg to 137 mcg and added 5mcg of Liothyronine because my FT4 was over range and my FT 3 was in range but low. Do you think I should take together with my Synthroid or take at different time. I know it's a small amount.

It will be fine to take your liothyronine with your Synthroid. If your T3 dose is increased then you could split it and take the second dose later in the day.

You can experiment to see what suits you best.

Thank you...I will take it together starting tomorrow.

I try my meds at different times but in the end now take both a.m.

MightyMay,

Constipation can be a sign of under medication. Hypo with palpation’s can be a sign of low iron. My own body vibrations appeared to be associated with adrenal issues. All symptoms can be attributed to inadequate thyroid hormone levels.

Positive results from medicating a little added T3 is usually seen pretty quickly but previous over-range T4 levels may mean recovery is slightly longer. How long have on been on the new dosing regime? Have vibrations started since you added that little bit of T3?

Have you had ferritin recently tested? Assuming you have had or are due TFT's after dose change. If you post any recent results for thyroid or nutrients/complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) members will comment.

Thank you for.the information. I just started the reduced dosage a week ago but I've been having the vibration for a few months now. I am due to get blood work, so will post at that time. I will make sure ferritin is checked.

How did you resolve your adrenal issues? I think that may be my issue as well.

MightyMay,

Adrenals become compromised through years of supporting inadequate thyroid hormone, until we are finally diagnosed and then eventually optimally medicated.

My internal vibrations decreased as I became optimised on thyroid hormones several years ago. Although both cortisol & DHEA levels recovered and now follow a normalised circadian pattern, internal vibrations can still return (usually during the night) if I overdo activities/stress and get really tired. They literally switch on & off and I feel as if I have been plugged into a fridge!

This condition is not recognised by the medical profession and although many other forum members have suffered with it I have never found any information with regards to it.

Supplementing for adrenals is good. I find adrenal glandulars tricky but have tried many adaptogens and my favourite is definitely Ashwaghanda. I also take about 2g of buffered Vit C a day. Reducing stress is important (mental as well as physical) and I practice yoga daily.

Thanks again for your response....something to think about.

5mcg of liothyronine is a very small amount, being constipated could mean you need more.

My endo is trying to raise my F T3 levels. He started me out on a low dose because he knows I'm sensitive to a lot of medications.

I very definitely associate heart palpitations with being under-medicated. Taking a dose of T3 will switch off the palps within 20 minutes for me.

Thank you for that info....hoping for a positive outcome.

Hi,

I had real bad palpitations to the point I was in bed for weeks and could not function. I was given propanolol but it didn't work that well and later put on high dose of vitamin D and it made a world of difference. The palpitations stopped in less than a week. For me, the D levels were an issue (my reading then was 40). This may or may not be the issue for you, but something to take note of if your levels are low.

Interesting, as my Vitamin D levels are within range but low..about 45. I'm going to increase my D and see what happens..Thank you.

Please try this as it really worked for me. I was on high dose of vit. D, 40,000IU/per week for up for 5 weeks under my Dr. supervision. With the high dose, it took me about 2 months to get from 40 to 79. I am in the UK and here I think the min. range is 80. Prior to taking the high dose, I was taking vit. D but because it was a low dose of 800IU to 2000IU/daily, I barely noticed a difference.

Treating my vit. D levels, stopped my nausea, palpitations, dizziness and a bunch of anxiety symptoms. I'm not 100% but I am so much better. Please take note that a lot of literature supports taking vit. D with K2 supplements, hence would recommend this combination. All the best, really hope this works for you!

I'd also look at your zinc and cortisol levels, odds are it's high cortisol that could be the cause of your palpitations...
