I thought this paper would interest patients here on TUK as it advocates using T3 in therapy on ischemic heart disease.

Thanks for posting this review. I've not had time to read it. We know there is low T3 syndrome in cardiac disease but don't know whether it is protective or harmful. Regardless of potential ethical issues we need a placebo controlled T3 intervention study to find out once and for all whether T3 should be prescribed (even to cardiac patients who do not have a thyroid problem).
Given there is increased cardiac risk with even mild thyroid failure (so called 'sub-clinical') it's frustrating doctors don't intervene more aggressively at first signs of hypothyrodism.

Fascinating article that makes me even more incredulous that the latest guidelines from the powers that be in UK Endocrinology are recommending sub clinical and then overt hypothyroidism is left untreated until TSH is over 20. How on earth can this be justified in light of this article, from a cardiac health aspect alone?
