Does anyone out there cry a lot?

When all my med problem with what I think was my Synthroid, started five years ago I started crying every day and it has never stopped. I heard from my friend yesterday that her daughter who is hypo does too then I read in an older post that another person did too. Is the common when you are undermedicated? My THS was 3.61 on 75mcg Synthroid but now as some of you know I’ve switched to NDT 6 days ago so am only up to 45.

Also, do any of you have weak shaky legs that also started five years ago?

I just realized now that was when I was reduced from 125 to 112 to 75 by some GP in his great wisdom! I don’t have him any more but my current one wouldn’t raise it up, hence my reason going to a naturopath.

I think it’s just part of the ‘depression’ that low mood that can accompany any long term illness 😔

Probably right. I don’t feel depressed but I’m sure I am a bit at least. First the cancer two years ago and then this.

I had this experience recently after my TT - I cried constantly and had shaky legs. I am still finding my right dose and am underdosed - based on reports from others on the forum, this crying and shaky legs is common if you are hypo and underdosed. Hope this helps.

That makes me feel a whole lot better. Thanks for that. I am hypo and under dosed. At least I feel I am. GP doesn’t agree of course.

My main complaint is the legs, my light head and fatigue.

I cried for a year after introducing T3.

T3 alleviated most hypo symptoms but gave me terrible depression until all hormones eventually balanced out.

Now I am fine. Hang in there and concentrate on optimising nutrients and lowering thyroid antibodies. All of which will help thyroid hormones work better, and encourage a quicker recovery.

Thanks Radd. I’m just starting to read Stop the thyroid madness. The chapter on vitamins etc. I can see I need to make a trip to the store soon. Also am kind of thinking about a gluten and or dairy free diet. Not anxious to start soon lol.

I have no idea how to lower antibodies though. Any tips?

The g/f diet helps many. Supplementing selenium. Also optimal Vit D & EFA’s (fish oils) are known to reduce inflammation and calm the inflammatory response.

Thanks Radd. I’m thinking of getting the selenium. I do take D and fish oils and have for a long time now.

I just was told no beer on the gluten free diet so I will have to think carefully. Lol. I don’t drink alcohol except for beer and I am not talking about a lot but lately I’ve been having one with dinner. It calms me plus I love the taste. I’m not a foodie and my life sucks right now feeling so crummy and this is my one treat in life.

I love beer too but a food intolerance test taken several years ago exposed an intolerance to barley. 😢

Now THAT’S terrible lol. I didn’t know they made gluten free beer. I mean, I could live without it but don’t want to. I’ve already given up my beloved wine. Whine whine lol.

I love white wine. A nice cold Sauvignon Blanc always goes down well. 😃 Can’t drink too often now though as I don’t seem to metabolise as well as I did. This appears a common complaint as we get older.

What happened to the golden years. Like I said last week the only thing golden is the colour of my beer lol. I loved wine but it didn’t love me back. It only decided we had to break up was about ten years ago. I was 61 then. Sad time lol.

I increased my NDT by 1/4 of a grain up to 45 now four days ago but I’m feeling very antsy. Could it be from the increase and do I have to be upset thinking it won’t work for me. Sorry but that is the way my mind works.

I know and thank you. The way that I have felt since I joined this forum is like all this info is going into my head and then it feels like it’s in a blender whirring around and around. I am blaming it on the thyroid. Confusion and memory loss are rampant in me right now.

If I pop over would you pour me a big cold glass of Sauvignon lol. I will actually bring a bottle. Just give me time to book the flight. Lol.

Hi Mikkymouse...........this is something to do with the adrenal glands - everyone thinks that emotions come from the heart - no - they come from the adrenal glands - I always know when my adrenals are low (i am an Addison's patient as well as thyroid as well as..................well I won't go into any more and bore you) - I have to manage my cortisol levels so if I have a bad day and start feeling weepy then I know I have over done it and my adrenals are 'talking' to me. Vitamin C is needed by the adrenal glands - in fact it will be grabbed from your body stores of the vitamin to supply the adrenals to keep you alive virtually - so you might try to supplement with Vitamin C - try to get a good product - not slow release as this can stick to the stomach wall and hurt your tummy lining. - also Vitamin B is for the adrenals - take complete B complex - and the shaky legs is adrenaline trying to support you as the adrenals can't make enough cortisol for your needs at that time. I am not a Dr but just someone who has gone though what you are going through - if you are on any medication then you will need to make sure what you take as a supplement does not affect your drugs. Be wary of D and calcium. Hope this helps.

Thank you for replying. Do you take any med to support the adrenals? I mean do they make such a thing? What you write makes a lot of sense. I’m thinking of getting my adrenals and cortisol levels tested. Expensive. $220 Canadian, but I’m pulling out all stops to make sure it is my thyroid. The only med I take is the NDT. Up till last week I was on Synthroid.

What med do you take forvyour problem?

Hi there - yes I am afraid I am on steroids lifelong because it has developed into Addison's - which is a flipping nuisance. NDT didn't agree with me - too much T3 which made me feel shaky etc and unbelievably hot and sweaty and breathless.

That’s too bad. I am on day seven of the NDT and I am feeling very shaky agitated. Now you have me wondering if it’s from the T3. I know though that I have to give my body time to get used to it.

Yes, I would put my money on high T3, just drop your dose a tiny little bit, like 1/4 grain. Don't give up on your NDT, just lower the dose a little bit. I used to experiment a lot with my NDT dose and when I took too much I got shakey and twitchy, it sent my blood pressure up too. But on the exact dose, it's wonderful. Oh, and that takes a bit of time, trial and error, but it's worth it.

I am only on 3/4 grain so don’t want to drop back down. That dose is already 45 compared to the 75 I was on a week ago when I was on Synthroid. My TSH is 3.61 and I’m blaming that. I feel it’s too high as most posters on here have told me.

Yes, I agree with you. With a TSH of 3.61 you are under dosed. You could try 1 grain, that is still a small dose, for what it is worth, I take 1.5 grains of Armor NDT and I have no thyroid at all (had a TT). Bear in mind that T3 only has a half life of 8 hours so any ill effects (if due to T3) will be gone by late afternoon (assuming you take your meds first thing in the morning).

Hi PostThinking, that is very interesting. Are you saying low cortisol = weepiness or the other way round? I have easy weepiness so this would tell me if I have low or high cortisol

Hate to keep mentioning my health issues as sounds like I am making it all up as there are so many ...............but .............have had Sepsis twice due to a UTI I couldn't fight off due to my low immune issues.

Because I have adrenal insufficiency and it was so serious because of the adrenal issue I came out of hospital on 200 mg of hydro cortisone 20 x 10mg tablets daily - it was dreadful. So I can say that when on high doses of cortisol you tend to fly off the handle it can make you aggressive and low can make you weepy. That's how I have experienced it - when I get weepy my husband says - oh dear you need more steroid and he is right.

With this awful Addison's I have - even the weather if too cold or too hot or I have any stress - instead of my body pushing out cortisol as a steady balanced stream throughout the day and its events - I have to gauge how I am feeling - what I am going to come up against that day and dose accordingly - I read on an Addison's forum that made me chuckle - a sufferer has to up dose when she visits her in laws. Have you tried taking Vitamin B complex for your adrenal support but I would need to know what other meds you take as they could be compromised.

That's fascinating. My cortisol profile is pretty low (you know, it's high in the morning, low mid day, then high about 4:oopm then drops again for the night time). I bet my potential for weepiness is about mid day and evening when my lows are probably too low, I will watch out for it. That's fascinating, thanks.

Hi there - cortisol levels are high in morning to wake you up and will peak around 4-6 ready for a wind down at night. The cycle for my HC meds were 8 a.m. 12.00 - 4.00 p.m. 6.00 p.m.

Yes a small dose throughout the day as HC does not have a long life in the blood stream - so you take it spread out during the day within the circadian rhythm timings. But don't forget I am adrenal insufficient.

Wow. You sure have your crosses to bear don’t you. I feel bad for you. This isn’t the way we expected life to be. No choice but to push on though.

I take. b complex and have for at least a year. I just called my naturopath and she had the saliva kit for testing adrenals and cortisol. I’m getting it on Tuesday. I have suffered long enough and it’s time to fight back so I’m doing everything I can. It will get costly but what the heck. That is what we saved for. Well actually we saved to have fun in our retirement but that will come. I HAVE to be positive. Thanks for answering.

Hi mikkymouse ! Yep, I can cry at the drop of a hat! Hypo all my life and more emotional when my meds are too low. I’ve tried so hard not to cry at the Endo visits but I’m just so frustrated...and terrified when they keep reducing! All they come back with is that I’m depressed!!! 🤬

Are you upset because I used the term depressed? That’s why I put it in ‘quotation marks’ and we cry at many more things than death and it’s not all down to hormones. But when our tears are because of under medication or the wrong type of medication our reaction can very much mimic or it can be consider ‘depression’ it’s just that again the treatment and/or reaction to ‘depression’ is usually not what is needed ie antidepressants. I’d never touch them, although they’ve been offered to me many times over the years. My ‘depression’, crying, sadness, lethargy, low mood ect all disappeared when I was properly treated with Thyroid medication but I can’t deny that I was ‘depressed’

Depression can be from being hyper too . Or just dosing with T4 and not being a good T4 converter to T3 . T3 helps with depression . Nutrients too play a large roll here too . Vitamin "D" /K2 , B-Complex , B-12/folate , Iron if you test low , magnesium , vitamin "C" , Celtic Sea Salt for adrenals/electrolytes . Testing Adrenal/ Cortisol levels via 24 hour saliva . DHEA -S via BW .

Thanks for answering. Have you had your adrenals tested. I’m planning on doing it just to make sure . I’m not depressed thank goodness. I’m surprised with all I’ve been though with the cancer, this and lots of personal stuff.

I’m starting to feel better mentally that is , hearing that others cry too. I don’t know why I do and it all started with my med decreased by 50mcg!! Don’t know why it was done. Some “wise” GP. Now mine won’t up it again. Hence my going to a naturopath.
