I just want to start here by saying a big thank you to everyone on here who has taken the time to help a virtual stranger try and get better. It is very appreciated. I’m getting all kinds of good advise on this wonderful site
My question is what is the best med to be on A Levo, or NDT or one or both of T4 of T3? I just wondered what people have had the most success with. I didn’t know until now that you can take the Ts by themselves As you know, drs push the Levos If you don’t mind sharing which one you like best I would greatly appreciate it I’m tired of just doing what I’m told by the drs
Thank you

There over 100,000 members here and I believe around 12,000 are active. We are all individuals so reading hundreds of posts about the actions of others may be confusing for you. What works for one may not work for another. Patience seems to be the watchword where the thyroid is concerned. 😊 I have read your earlier posts and replies when at times I read of confusion - so take it slowly and keep on reading ...
Probably 80% plus do fine on T4, some need combination T4 and T3 ,a very small group can only manage on T3 alone. I do not know for sure but suspect NDT is a replacement for combination therapy which some find better but others cannot get on with.
Bear in mind the vast majority of thyroid patients are not on this forum because they are fine on T4.
Thanks. I guess the truth of the matter is that I can’t get my GP to raise my Levo from 75 and I feel this is too low. You know what they are all like. Refuse to consider you may be ill even though the numbers are in range. I was hoping If I went to the naturopath she could help me out with this. I’ll see in a few hours.
Yup, learn and learn, read and ask questions 🙂 I will give you the link to our parent website, great place to learn about all things thyroid including different meds. It would be easier on Levo... Well not sure about Canada but in UK. Vast majority do great on Levo of course getting the right dose is another thing entirely.
I clicked on the blue link and it worked! Strange. I trie about six times yesterday figuring I was making typos. Thanks. I’ll read it after I finish reading the answers to my latest post
The hypothyroidism.html link in your first post worked just now, but when reposted there's an extra dot after html, which makes it give a "404 - File or directory not found" error message.
Are you sure you aren't misreading the redirect notice that Health Unlocked in its questionable wisdom had added as a response message each time we click on a link. If you click on the link posted by fibrolinda, the redirect message appears on the screen, and you simply have to then click on that, to reach the page you're looking for.
"Levo, or NDT or one or both of T4 of T3" - but Levo is T4, and is what you have said you were taking unsatisfactorily for years. There is no across the board "best med", and as a I wrote in one of your posts five days or so ago regarding NDT, it can't ever be assumed that the experience of others will be your experience, you can only see how you get on with a med by first hand experience. However, as you have only just started taking Erfa Thyroid to replace your Synthroid, I would suggest now is the time to focus on optimising that, and allowing it the opportunity to possibly be the best med for you, rather than already thinking about other ways to medicate your hypothyroidism.
Thanks. You’re right of course. It’s just the way I am that I get an idea and then jump on it right away. Not good at times but we are the way we are. Drives my husband nuts at times. One reason I’m asking this is because I’m off to the naturopath in a bit here and want to know what to ask her. I think I’ll just try to keep my mouth shut and often to get. Hard though lol.
After being off Synthroid for a few days I feel quite a lot better which leads to suspect that I was right about the actual med not being good for me, not the amount. I have bad reactions to most meds which sucks big time.
"After being off Synthroid for a few days I feel quite a lot better which leads to suspect that I was right about the actual med not being good for me, not the amount" - no,not necessarily so. It is a very common phenomenon that people will report feeling better for a short while when stopping their Levo, but the more experienced members here, will know to wait for the next post along the lines of "I felt better for a while after stopping my Levo, but now feel really awful" ..... It's generally because people weren't optimally medicated, or sometimes because they were sensitive to an excipient in the tablets.
Thanks for this. I have no choice but to wait and see what the new med Thyroid will do for me. My dose was changed yesterday to 45 up from 30. Still too low of course but taking it slow.
Yup it makes sense sortoff lol. Just not sure on the last sentence. Do you mean the combination that was best when you were on Levo? Because of Ned intolerance I think Synthroid could be the culprit. I feel quite a bit better just being off it for a few days.
