Drs not giving prescription for vitamins

My parathyroid level was 7.2 (1.10-6.90) in April, have since had another which has come back 7.0 andwas told had something to do with vitamin D which came back at 52 (50.00-174) which I know is low . My B12 came back normal at 359 (180-999) but I would like it at at least the half way mark but am told it’s fine so no B12 prescription even though I am so tired all the time and dizzy. I know you said on here before but I’ve forgotten so could you give me the best vit D and best B12 to buy without all the bulking agents in them. I believe amazon was the place to get them from.

Many thanks

What is your calcium level ? with a high PTH that's more important than vit levels.

You might want to read up about hyperparathyroidism. See parathyroid.com.

My daughter's calcium was always in range, along with elevated parathyroid hormone. Yup, had two tumors removed. My calcium was only .3 above range once along with elevated PTH. Yup, I too had parathyroid tumors. Biggest issues with hyperparathyroidism was the fatigue and bone pain. And both of us have Hashi's. That's another story.

Good luck.

Doctors will only prescribe vitamins if there is a deficiency, once in range they are not obliged to prescribe.

Here is your previous post with suggestions for supplements

For Vit D you could go with the BetterYou oral spray, personally it has too many excipients in it for me so I would go with sublingual drops - Vitabay Organics are pure, no excipients.

These are 1000iu strength amazon.co.uk/Vitamin-D3-Liq...

1 drop = 1000iu. Use however many drops you need. For a level of 50nmol/L you would need 4000-5000iu daily. Retest in 3 months, adjust dose to a maintenance dose once you've reached 125nmol/L.

When taking D3 you need the important cofactors, Vit K2-MK7 and magnesium.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules/softgels, no necessity if using an oral spray or sublingual drops.

Vitabay Organics also do a pure Vit K2-MK7 amazon.co.uk/Vitamin-K2-Liq...

3 drops = 100mcg K2.

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.

Check out the other cofactors too (some of which can be obtained from food).

If you decide it's magnesium citrate you need, then the purest form is Natural Calm Original powder. Amazon and Ebay sell it.

With B12, this needs a B Complex as well to balance all the B Vitamins. Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B are two popular ones here.

Couldn’t find it on here but remembered I’d done a screen shot of two things.one was super B Complex, high strength B Vits with folate, B6&B12 plus vitC, the other was Folate 1,333MCG DFE melafolin 8a mcg. My gp said dont get the vit d as a gel coating due to bad absorption just the ordinary tablet.

Neither of your previous threads have a picture of any tablets, only pictures of test results.

My gp said dont get the vit d as a gel coating due to bad absorption just the ordinary tablet.

Your GP, I'm afraid, is talking out of an orifice that is not his mouth.

Different types of supplements are absorbed in different ways.

Sublingual - through the mucous membranes in the oral cavity - the best way to bypass the gut.

Liquid-filled capsules - there are hard shell and soft gel:

softgels are quickly broken down in the body, the liquid reaches the bloodstream soon after ingestion.

Tablets - have to be broken down completely first so take longer.

Enteric coated tablets - the enteric coating protects the ingredients being released in the stomach so that they are released in the intestines.

If you want a supplement with no bulking agents, then steer clear of tablets. They have to have bulking agents to actually form the tablet.

I would go for an oil emulsion of vit D, definitely not tablets (useless), and at least 2000iu a day - but you probably need twice that
