Hello guys, I had total total thyroidictomy 4 years ago , i was prescribed Eltroxin brand for the first 3 and half years and it was a horrible experience , most of my hair fell out , i was lethargic and always fatigued , as a result I couldn't go to college or go out of home , my life stopped after my surgery .My mother is a endocrinologist and a professor in a prestigious uni and she never really believed any of my symptoms and blamed my mental health for them .So i took matters by my own hand and started reading their basic science books and I stumbled on how enzymes work, only then i thought to change the brand of t4. so I did this and went for Euthyrox and after a month or two things became better , but i still can't do much work , i always get tired after 3-4 hours of waking up. I lost most of relationships because of this disease , my parents think i am mentally ill and refuse to believe otherwise so life sucks rn, my only option left to better my quality of life is to try T3, but it doesn't get sold where I live, and I know I need a prescription to buy it , so if anyone can help I will be grateful .

EDIT : I am currently in the Middle East.

Are you based here in UK?

Before considering adding T3 you need FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing to see exactly what FT3 and FT4 levels are. Low vitamins are extremely common and really need improving first

Add results and ranges if you have them already

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised or if on inadequate dose of Levothyroxine

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Medichecks currently have an offer on until end of May - 20% off

Come back with new post once you have results and ranges

Meanwhile email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists, many will prescribe T3.

List of endocrinologist are only UK based

We do have a number of members in Middle East. You could put up a post asking for any recommendations by private messages

TSH is not reliable test. You need FT3 and FT4 tested as well
