endocrinologist told me i dont need to take thyroxine tsh 8.9

today i ad appointent with endocrinoloist i took all blood test with me and he said not to tae thyroxine unless my tsh is over 10.00 he gave me 20.000 vitamin d to take once a week and b12 as i am very low .... i dont know as i have many symptoms he said is from low vitamins what iss your oppinion ?

i am 64 years old maybe age matters?

I thought you were already on Levothyroxine, your past posts mention that you were diagnosed with Hashimotos in February when your tsh was 11.9 and that you weren't getting on well with Euthyrox.

You don't stop taking your Levo when your TSH goes below 10 then restart it when it goes back above 10. The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or lower with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their ranges if that is where you feel well, when on Levo.

Does he know you were diagnosed when your TSH was 11.9?

He is sticking to the 'rules' that the UK has, i.e. not to prescribe levothyroxine (whilst ignoring disabling symptoms) until the TSH is 10 or over.

This is whilst ignoring all of the clinical symptoms a patient may have by then. In other countries the diagnosing number is 3+ with symptoms.

I doubt any endocrinologist seems to know any of the disabling symptoms.

Do not go back to him. Ask GP for another referral and hope to goodness that it is someone who has sense and doesn't talk nonsense. Maybe he needs a print-out of the following.

I am not medically qualified but high doses of Vit D and B12 could be too much. Put up a fresh post and ask what the recommended daily doses are of these two vitamins.

I'm confused here. Surely if you are already taking medication he can't expect you to present with the same high TSH figure. It that's the case I should complain to PALS at the hospital. You have shown him the paper trail.

i dident take any medications it was making me ill so i stop long before test done

Levothyroxine didn't agree with me but sometimes a different make of levothyroxine can improve our health. Ask GP for another prescription and ask pharmacist to give you a levo you've not had prescribed before.

Please do what shaws suggests. We can't go without our medication plus the longer you stay off the longer it's going to take to get you stable. All medication has fillers in them, they bulk it up and also keep the medication stable. If you were to look at a few PIL's ( Patient Informaion Leaflet enclosed in the bill box) you will see that the fillers. An vary and it's usually thesexvillers that can upset us so fairly easy to sort by asking for another brand to try. As there are a few fillers in each brand you may have to try more than one. When you find one you are happy with them ask your doctor to name it on your prescription then you should always be given that. It happens a lot so don't worry about complaining.
